NAUGHTY But Nice - Another Ebay Purchase 😈


The reason I felt guilty regarding the purchase of the Abu 506 was because of this beauty below.

This is the Abu704.
For less than £20.00 including postage on ebay I just could not resist this with 3 spools supplied to.

Just goes to show if you look hard enough there are still some bargains out there on ebay. 😉
I have one of these already. 😈
It cost me £30.00 second hand with one spare spool so this is a bargain.

I had dropped my older reel on the floor at home. The floor is solid oak so it was like dropping in on a slab of concrete.  !!!!!!!!!!!

The reel was fine apart from a small dent in the cowl but just a small dent altered the cylindrical shape of the spool slightly. It also made it very difficult to remove and replace which is a must with these reels.
It also hindered the line release from the spool.
I have no doubt one of the friendly engineers at work could re- shape it for me the next time I call in the fitting department but a bargain is a bargain and I just couldn't resist . 😉

This is the best closed face reel I have owned.
( Not having tried my Abu 506 yet )
 A little clunky compared to the Daiwa 125M though.

Having had two Daiwa 125Ms

which I liked immensely I believe the 704 has greater longevity and I would recommend this reel to anyone trotting on less than 5 lb line
 ( pre - stretched ).

FACE OFF !!!!!!!!

Let see how the 704 compares to the Abu 506
If there are any closed faced reel specialists reading this please comment and give us your the benefit of your expertise as to why the Abu 506 is rated the best closed face reel of all time and more importantly
 why haven't Abu been able to replicate their success 40 years down the line ??????

Mini Driftbeaters....The Christening

 Morning all , The day had come to christen our new prototype Mini Driftbeaters. With Salford Pete in tow we arrived at a local venue and set up ready for a days float fishing. I marched off in front to secure our pegs while Salford Pete seemed to take an age to arrive. He was talking and walking slowly to some other bloke I did not recognise. It was only when he got closer did I recognise my old mate  "The Castertman" He popped down to see another mate of his who was also fishing. We had a chat for five minutes then Casterman skipped off stating he would be back when we had both set up and started fishing. Ten minutes later me and the oldman were ready for the all in. River Irwell PB On A New Mini- Alloy Stem Avon

 Hi all, I had a short session to test some Mini-Alloy Stem Avons out this morning and ... BOY.......AM I GLAD I DID !!!!!! I hoped down to the SFAs stretch of the Irwell to hopfully grab some grayling pictures with my new trotters. It was a smash and grab raid as I was taking out  T.O.W.M.B.O. (THE ONE WHO MUST BE OBAYED) out for an early Valentines Dinner. (So Im frantically witting this blog as Dudds has put me under some considerable pressure to get it to you tonight) 😆 I got up late to throw a spanner in the works as well. I managed a few coats of paint on some other floats I am currently making then it was off to the river. I had a few grayling within the first ten minutes so my pictures were in the bag early doors. 😁 I checked my pictures and concluded they where what I was after and therefore could now relax for the next hour, enjoying the peace of being out in the fresh air as the new avon meandered along then bobed under  "Hmm another lady I thought"...... the the
