Quill & Pin.....An Evening Tench Session

Image
Hi all, I' ve been getting out a bit for a change!!!! Working in Yorkshire I have been exploring a few local ponds and lakes. I do like a nice early season tench so armed with a Youngs B.J. Pin and a custom made Harrison SU Waggler Rod from Andew Boyne I had a couple of hours on a local lake. It was a slow start tonight, surprising as the weather as much warmer then the prevous session. Bream were the first to show. I had seven or eight of these before a small mirror put a bend in my rod.  After an hour I had a big lift bite off a small tench which is what I was after. Not the biggest but put a nice bend in the rod. A short time afterwards another, even smaller one graced my landing net. I had a few more larger carp and bream,  called it a day when I couldn't see my float. All in all a good night with plenty of bites and fish. PS: I dont usually like comecials but this one is very nice. TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats click on the link below

Float & Pin On A Yorkshire Pool

Image
I have, once again been struggling to get motivated to go fishing but finally made it out last night for a spot of centerpin float fishing on a lovely scenic pool in Yorkshire. I decided to fish the lift method down the margins to see what the pool offered and  opted for one of my standard, banded porcupine quills in fluorescent yellow and white. Baits used were corn and bread....loose feeding liquidised bread and hemp. The session started off slowly.  I had a few lifts and bobs but nothing solid. A few blows around my feed built up my confidence so I introduced a little more liquidised bread and hemp. Straight after the new bait was introduced my float bobbed, then buried and I was into one of the small resident bream. A few more bream graced my net and to be honest I was just happy sitting there in the sun catching a few fish, taking in all the atmosphere of this lovely little lake when polite voice behind me bid me said  "Good evening" ......  it was the owners wife.  We

Inverted Porcupine Quills

I have been waiting to make some  "Standard Inverted Porcupine Quills" for a few weeks now. These floats below have been made for a friend and ex-collegue of mine with whom I plan on doing some local tenching at some point this summer. Jason did ask for one yellow glow in the dark float in addition to the three day glow floats you see below. Quills are quit simple floats to make as most of the shaping has been done by mother nature. It is when, like me, you keep adding complexity to the build that the time spent on one float starts to spirial out of control. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 😆 I particularly like the new pale blue whippings on these floats. I really like these and will be making some more shortly. Jason, you don't know how close I came to keeping these for myself  😂😂😂😂😂😂 !!!!!!!!! Inverted Glow In The Dark Porcupine Quill.

Image
I have been meaning to make one of these floats for a while but just never got round to it. Well,  I have had plenty of time in the last few weeks and made the float below. It is a very simple design showing off as much of the quill as possible but obviously glows in the dark to enable me to fish into the darkness. This pattern may be a more tradition version of my " Sneaky Lifter Float " I will need to test and see how the lift bits are indicated but I am fairly confidant that it will perform well.  I just hope it won't be a long wait. Positioned next to a pair of standard  "Glow In The Dark Quills"  the difference in tip diameter is plain to see, therefore, sensitivity is increased. This pattern would also be a great roach float in medium to slow rivers and I will be trying it  out on the River Ribble or Derwent when the season opens. Glow In The Dark example pictures. I will have a few more larger versions
