Finished in balsa with a hardwood stem, black, olive green and rose gold threads, these floats take approximately 6.4g or 4 swan in old money. Tight lines everyone. River Ribble Shallow Water StickFloat Trial.

Image
Hi all,  I have been meaning to get on the banks with Craig Lutner for ages so when he asked for a specific loaded stick float for the shallow runs on the middle River Ribble I seized the oppotunity. The trip resutled in me popping my River Ribble Grayling cherry, four in fact. Craig had a lovely brace of chub one after the other plus multiple dace. Im happy with the floats performance so I will be getting some more turned today. Link to float blog below: https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2022/09/loaded-shallow-water-stick-floats-with.html No barbel this time .....but gives us an excuse to get out together once again. ☺ Can anyone ID this fish for me please? I have not fished the Ribble for while but I will be on the Lower Ribble this winter for silvers. Tight lines everyone. New Shouldered Stick Floats

Image
Morning all, On these latest stickfloats I have elongeted the tip which will increases sensitivity, decrease its weight capacity and also also give the float a different look which Im quite pleased about. The floats below are not a matching set as I am still playing around with weight capacites. Stained in oak with white/fluorescent orange tips, black, violet and rose gold whippings these floats will be tucked up in my box ready for a session on a the Ribble and may be a few more local Rivers. I'm looking forward to a little roach and chub fishing with these.  Autum and winter is my time to fish as in the summer months I am usually to busy with work and family. Casterman, get hold of Ribble Pete and we can have a session at that place you mention. 😊 TTFN   Peanut.  Please subscribe if you would like regular updates of my adventures with the floats I make.  If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2021/02

New Shallow Water Stick Testing Session Plus An Irwell Grayling

Image
Got a call this weekend from John Derbyshire asking to fish a certain stretch of the River Irwell. We arrived on the river at 09.00 I set up the new "Shallow Water Loaded Stick Float " and my Acolyte Plus.  ( New section aquired).  🙄 The run was only two and a half foot deep so ideal for these floats which are almost fully loaded. The Ginger Assassin was on the next peg up with a MK I Irwell stick. (You have that some years pal) so at least we could take the piss out of each other if we blanked.....lol The previous night I had been grayling hunting (pics below) on a stretch higher up river so I had a rig nearly ready. The liquidised bread went in first followed by some seed. Maggots  and seed would the be dripped in constantly with the odd ball of bread to top up the swim when it died a little. Basically I caught from start to finish. 09.00 - 14.00. Plenty long enough for me as I am not getting any younger. All caught on a centerpin and stick float set up. https://purplepea

Loaded Shallow Water Stick Floats - With Craig Lutener

Image
The floats below are for Craig Lutener, a mate of mine from Elton Tackle In Radcliffe. Two for him, three for me. He has asked me to make some Almost, Fully Loaded Shallow Water Stick Floats for fishing with partical baits/maggots, and casters. Not identical but slightly different in sizes and weights. We will be after two species with these floats, grayling and barbel. First will be grayling I think.....it will all depend on river levels and clarity but should happen in the next couple of weeks. Salford Pete-Commercial Bagging

Image
It was high time my dad and I had a fishing session together so after work we popped down to my local commercial carp fishery in Yorkshire. I recently purchased a new rod for  "Salford Pete" I opted for a 13ft Korum Glide, ideal for my dads style of fishing and quite robust incase if any accidental knocks. So, with his new bit if kit my old man was itching to wet a line. I helped set him up  ( Purely for speed as it was 17.00 when we arrived ) on his Bodied Antenea Waggler which I made for him which he loves for maggot fishing. I lumped in three jaffers of my special commie ground bait mix so dad could just flick maggots in over the top and catch anything that came around. Due to the short time we had (3 hrs) I decided to cocentrate on one line down the left hand side.  My attack was three Jaffers of special commie mix, half a pint of hemp plus a few grains of corn. I also had some paste mix I made up in case they were a little hesitant taking corn. Before I could wet a line
