Image
Happy New Year All. This quartet are my last floats of 2023. Inserted 50:50 Small Camo Green Wagglers + Heavy Hardwood Stem Irwell Sticks. The wagglers will mainly be used for tench at close quarters, the sticks for bigger baits on faster, shallow river stretches. Wagglers are Sarkanda and the sticks are balsa, all with hardwood stems. I have looked at the river many times overr the  Christmas period without finding a decent period to fish. Lets hope the new year is a little more clement. Tight lines and Happy New Year. Shouldered & Flared 4g Sticks For Long Trotting

Image
Hi all, I was recently asked to make a set of 20 no 4 (4g) Shouldered Alloy Stick Floats for a trip on the River Itchen in the coming weeks. The floats are to be used for long trotting fishing six feet plus on some runs. Because of the distance these floats will be fished at I have kept the tips as wide as I possible could, flaring the taper out just before the shoulder, initially giving a wider tip before turning the shoulder/tip. As requested the floats were stained to a dark oak finish with fluorescent orange tips plus a white collar. Black, crimson and rose gold were the threads colours used for this build. Hopefully I will soon see a plump agrayling next to one of these floats which reminds me, I must blow the cobwebs of my river gear and go fishing as I have not graced a river bank yet this season 😲😲😲😲 !!!!! New Shouldered Stick Floats

Image
Morning all, On these latest stickfloats I have elongeted the tip which will increases sensitivity, decrease its weight capacity and also also give the float a different look which Im quite pleased about. The floats below are not a matching set as I am still playing around with weight capacites. Stained in oak with white/fluorescent orange tips, black, violet and rose gold whippings these floats will be tucked up in my box ready for a session on a the Ribble and may be a few more local Rivers. I'm looking forward to a little roach and chub fishing with these.  Autum and winter is my time to fish as in the summer months I am usually to busy with work and family. Casterman, get hold of Ribble Pete and we can have a session at that place you mention. 😊 TTFN   Peanut.  Please subscribe if you would like regular updates of my adventures with the floats I make.  If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2021/02

Straight Hardwood Stemmed Irwell Stick

Image
Hi everyone, Today I have just finished another  "Irwell Stick Float" Finished in grey and white paint, black thread and a fluorescent red/ pink tip. This is very simple, timeless, traditional style that is really starting to appeal to me. Made with a straight, walnut stem this is lighter & thinner than the previous Flared Hardwood Stemmed Floats I made a few weeks ago. Another one to try on the Irwell, Ribble and may be other rivers come the 16th....... Starting to get excited !!!!! Stained, Stepped Stick Floats for the New Pin

Image
Hi all, After looking in my float boxes I discovered a distinct lack of stick floats. (No surprise there hey lads.....lol) So a quick session on the lathe and I had a few bodies in hand for decoration. The first pair are heavy, made for shallow....ish fast runs and bigger baits, worm, bread, pellet etc.  Balsa was chosen for the body and alloy for the stem. I find the alloy stems gives me the best balance in the faster water. The bodies are stained chestnut brown, threads used where: Black Gold  Burgundy & Grey   I have made similar models to these before but longer in stem and body. In my huge collection of unfinished floats I did find a small unfinished body for a really shallow water stick.....a grayling float to be honest so.......I finished that one in metallic pearlescent blue, threads for this one where: Black Gold &  Red These smaller versions taking 5 No 4's and are just the job for really shallow runs for grayling, chub and barbel using small baits such as maggot
