Merry Christmas Everyone 2023

Image
Merry Christmas Everyone. It's been a bit of a weird year for me regarding fishing. I have suffered badly with motivation and opportunities to wet a line. Lets hope 2024 is a better year for me personally regarding fishing. I have, however, keep busy float making and have a few surplus floats left over from 2023 builds. Tight lines to all in the coming year. TTFN      Peanut. Roach Avons With Alloy Stems

Image
Hi all, I have been working on some new "Roach Avons With Alloy Stems"  for a few weeks now and finally finished them last night. There are twelve floats in total, all taking appromimately 1.0 gm or 5 no 4s Made mainly for finicky feeding roach on slow to medium pace rivers at close range, up to two rod lengths out in the right conditions.  All these floats have balsa bodies, alloy stems and neutral densisty hardwood tips. I have mae a similar float previously. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2019/09/stained-slimline-roach-avons.html I found the float in the attached link great but the tip was a little too long and fragile so altered the design slightly to make them more robust. Hunter Green, Earth Brown, Slate Grey and Crimson Red where the colours of choice for this group of floats. All were finished with fluorescent orange tips and black / gold thread. I will be trying them out in the next week or two, I am just wainting for the fish to settle once they get used to t

Antenne Wagglers-5BB

Image
Morning all, I have managed to finish these wagglers this morning. The lollipop style float is mine for a local lake I fish for tench and mixed species, the other eight floats are for someone else. Once more balsa and hardwood make up the body of the floats. Eyes have been excluded from this build as rubber float connectors will be used. Stained, painted in slate grey with black and gold whippings these floats are now my go to still water float when fishing depths of less than six feet, a very sensitive float, great when maggot, caster or punch fishing. My self and "Salford Pete" should be having a social session on a local commie next week so I should get a few fish and float pictures fir a blog. Small, Fat Tipped, Avons For The Shallows

Image
Hi all, This weeks offerings are "Small, Fat Tipped, Avons" 11 centemetres long. for fishing shallow runs.....very usefull with the weather we are having the last couple of years. Simply made with balsa, hardwood paint & stain....these floats are an alternative to the Irwell sticks being narrower in the tip, fatter in the body have a reduced density stem and will take more shot down the line compared to the sticks. Finished in 50% and 100% slate grey I am hoping to get out myself for some fish and float pics on a Yorkshire River. These avons will give me some motivation to get out and fish a new stretch of River Derwent I have been looking at since the spring. I will be pairing the floats with my Bob James Pin and fishing a fast, shallow, well oxygenated stretch of the river in search of chub and barbel but centainly wont complain if I bag some silvers, a river gudgeon is always a nice surprise to if I am lucky enough to bag one.......We shall see. Ps: I have been talkin

Yellow, Large, Thick Tipped, Teardrop Avons

Image
Hi All, I was asked to make a some floats for barbel and chub fishing in faster runs on the River Ribble.  The preference was Avons and Sticks. Below are the first set of floats requested. Three "Large, Thick Tipped, Teardrop Avons" Added the pound coin for scale purposes. This is a pattern I have never used on the ribble myself. I always tend to lean to the heavey stick for these situations, however, these three will be ideal trottting the fast, more oxygenated water we have at the moment due to the lack of water. All three have black and gold whippings with a pastle yellow shoulder finishing with white and fluorescent orange tips. The Avons are made with balsa bodies and hard wood stems. All three floats take approximately 6.4g or 4 swan in old money. 😊 I must admit I did make an extra one to give it a go on the Ribble myself when I get a chance. PS: These will finished with a personal inscription today. 😊 TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted floa
