Smash and Grab Morning Tench Raid.

Image
Afternoon all,  I haven't been fishing since before Christmas !!!!!! but this morning I felt the urge for a tench, so, grabbed some kit and hi-tailed it off to a new tench lake I have just been informed about. My float was a 4BB boddied, lollypop lifter, ideal for short to medium distance in shallowish water. Within 30 minutes, after plenty of bits and a few ide I was into a good tench....a very good one infact but unfortunately, after a few seconds it slipped the hook.... and left me swearing loudly at anyone or thing in the immediate vicinity!!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆 I was gutted.  That was a belting fish!!!! I won't lie.....the next two hours was a struggle.  I was picking up a few bits every know and then but nothing much was happening and I was ready for home. I call off a good friend persuaded me to give it another half an hour....good job really!!!!!!  A change to double worm tipped with red maggot got me into my second tench hook up of the session. I made no mist...

Large Harwood Stem Irwell Sicks

Image
Hi all, Here are some additions for my trip to the Wye next summer. The floats below are  "5AAA Hardwood Stem Irwell Sicks" Finished in balsa with a harwood stem, black / gold threads with charcoal, white paints plus fluorescent orange tips. I have made the above for swims with a more powerful flow than normal and are capable of suspending big pieces of bread meat and paste and will be a welcome addition to mine and Johns float box. Shouldered & Flared 4g Sticks For Long Trotting

Image
Hi all, I was recently asked to make a set of 20 no 4 (4g) Shouldered Alloy Stick Floats for a trip on the River Itchen in the coming weeks. The floats are to be used for long trotting fishing six feet plus on some runs. Because of the distance these floats will be fished at I have kept the tips as wide as I possible could, flaring the taper out just before the shoulder, initially giving a wider tip before turning the shoulder/tip. As requested the floats were stained to a dark oak finish with fluorescent orange tips plus a white collar. Black, crimson and rose gold were the threads colours used for this build. Hopefully I will soon see a plump agrayling next to one of these floats which reminds me, I must blow the cobwebs of my river gear and go fishing as I have not graced a river bank yet this season 😲😲😲😲 !!!!! Roach Avons With Alloy Stems

Image
Hi all, I have been working on some new "Roach Avons With Alloy Stems"  for a few weeks now and finally finished them last night. There are twelve floats in total, all taking appromimately 1.0 gm or 5 no 4s Made mainly for finicky feeding roach on slow to medium pace rivers at close range, up to two rod lengths out in the right conditions.  All these floats have balsa bodies, alloy stems and neutral densisty hardwood tips. I have mae a similar float previously. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2019/09/stained-slimline-roach-avons.html I found the float in the attached link great but the tip was a little too long and fragile so altered the design slightly to make them more robust. Hunter Green, Earth Brown, Slate Grey and Crimson Red where the colours of choice for this group of floats. All were finished with fluorescent orange tips and black / gold thread. I will be trying them out in the next week or two, I am just wainting for the fish to settle once they get used ...

Mini Feather Inlay Sight Bob Wagglers

Image
Hi all, My usual Sight Bob Wagglers are a medium to large in size.  The set below set are much smaller taking just under 3 BB for close quarters  work. I have made two versions in the same size, metallic blue and solid grey with various tip colours, threads used were black, gold, violet & red. I'm looking forward to using these on a couple of tench waters I have been meaning to fish for years but just never found the time. I'm am hoping to take my dad along as it has been years since we have been tench fishing together. I have included a picture next to a Large Sight Bob Waggler to give you some idea of the size difference. I have also heard that two of my local waters have just been restocked by Salford Friendly Anglers so I will also be having a drop on there in the near future TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats...
