Oval & Inveted Tear Drop Fluted Avons.

Image
Hi all, This is my second attempt at a fluted float. This is a large float, simple in decor, built for certain sections of the River Wye, which I have yet to have the pleasure of fishing but if its anything like the Severn it should serve well for fishing with larger, heavier baits like meat, large pellet & paste. I have added an aluminium stem to the larger float pattern for stability as it will be used in the faster stretches of the river targeting barbel and chub. The floats weight capacity is approximately 8g or 5 swan in old money. All the raw materials are from my standard floatmaking stock it is the flutting that make these floats different. The smaller oval avons are much lighter taking 3-4g and made for my roach and chub fishing. All have alloy stems for better stability. Two are for larger bait and have a wide diameter red/pink tip. The other float has a finer tip for maggot and caster fishing. I will, hopefully, test these by the end of the month on the River Ribble...

Chubbers

Morning all, This pattern is a float I myself do not use very often and have made only twice before I think as I prefer silver fishing with a stick float or avon but if you are a specimen angler its a great float to suspend big baits in fast water. The set of five floats below all take approximately 6 swan shot or 9.6g in new money. There are a few swims on the Ribble where I could be persuaded to don a chubber instead of a stick float. Andy Boyne has pointed out a couple of swims on the ribble where this pattern will be at home. I think I will incorporate some specimen float fishing sessions into my fishing next season just to se what I can catch. Metallic 1.0g Alloy Stem Avons

Image
Morning all, A new paint job on the.... Small Alloy Stem Avons this week. I recently found a couple of cans of paint in the lock up which have been discontinued. Both are colours I really like...... Gothic metallic burgandy and purple. A small check was in order to see if these paints were still stable and ok to use then I added a couple of coats to the floats and finished the build. It's a shame I can not get any more of these paints, especially, if you are like me and you sometimes like a little bit of bling on your floats!!!!! Made mainly for finicky feeding roach on slow to medium pace rivers at close range, but, these floats can also double up as a commecial close range carp float when fishing the margins as I will be showing in a few weeks time. All these floats have balsa bodies, alloy stems and neutral densisty hardwood tips. Hunting Wild Stream Roach with Adam Mack

Image
Hi all, After a fishing free month for me (to much going on at home and work) I finally manage to get out this weekend with Adam Mack. We fished a new stretch of river to Adam and a totally new river for me. Both fishing Irwel Sticks (Adams standard & mine a loaded stick) our targets for the day where roach and chub. I have not seen Adam for ages so we had plenty of catching up to do. I love exploring new stretches of river and this session didn't dissapoint me. Fighting our way through ivy and dense nettle beds we found a lovely glide with a little more depth than the rest of the small stretch we had found. I stayed on the run introducing free offerings of liquidised bread and maggots while Adam nipped back to the car for the gear...... Fifteen minutes later Adam comes creeping along the bank like a heavily burdend ninja trying to keep as quiet as possible while carrying two lots of roving gear. 😆  "Any signs of fish Mike"  said Adam as we were both altering the de...
