Tailor Made Canal Pike Float For A Young Maestro !!!!!! PART TWO

Image
The second float made for Kayden McCarthy is a very small sliding pike float. Made from carbon and cork this float only takes 3.5 g and is designed to cause as little disturbance as possible when cast into the swim. ( I know because he told me. I am no piker ....lol ). It has is name on it and is finished in black, red, gold and violet whipping plus a small jay feather. ( couldn't resist it ) He now has the floats he needs to tackle the Irwell for big river carp and big pike from the central Manchester canal systems. Both floats. Kaydan will be getting the pike float wet this weekend.  Lets hope he can bag a croc for the blog.  😁 Photos to follow. I have every confidence in the young man.  😉 Kayden has just sent me a picture. He is all set up ready to rock and roll......lol 😁 TTFN Peanut.    If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.   https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fish

A New Pike Float For " The Pike Whisperer "

Image
If you are a fisherman especially a pike fisherman from Manchester this kid needs no introduction. " Kayden McCarthy " Is a member of Salford Friendly Anglers and  an exceptional young Pike angler. Like all young keen fisheman he is on the banks more than most adults and as we all know only too well........ location is key !!!!!!!!! In the last few years Kayden has caught some massive crocs from the inner Manchester canal systems. At the Salford Friendly Anglers Christmas doo after Kayden has won the " Fish Of The Year "  competition For the second time. ( A feet un-acheived by any adults I might add ) I thought I would ask his opinion on a new pike float I had made. As I showed him his eyes lit up . . . " You can have this if you like m8 " I added, glad I could help the lad out. " Mike, its lovely, but, for the canal . . . . Its . . . . . . TOO LONG . . . " we both said laughing in unison. I had made the new pi

New In-Line Sliding Pike Bobber

Image
I don't make many cork pike floats and fancied trying a blend of styles mixing new with old so, with that in mined I have made my first attempt at a new pattern. 😊 Below is a  . . . .  Cork Boddied In-Line Pike Bobber. It has a hollow carbon shaft for the line to slide through enabling the angler to fish at any depth. ( If anyone can think of a natural hollow tube to use plesse let me know ) I have also added a large sight bob, hopefully it can the be used for both pike and perch when  live bait fishing. Cock the float to the largest dome for pike fishing with larger live baits and to the sight bob for smaller live baits for perch and jack pike. It has to be tested yet but I do not see why it can not be used for both styles. Finished in fluorescrnt red / pink , black, gold and violet whippings plus a nice feather for further decoration. I rather like this design myself. I just need some nice fish and float picures now to go on the fish and

Pike Slider - A Manchester Christening.

Today I was heading to an SFA section of the Rochdale Canal, not to fish but to deliver a pair of Pike Sliders to their new owner.😁 http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/large-revesable-sliding-feather-inlay.html?m=1 I know this section of the the canal reasonable well as I used to work right next to it but I have never fished it for Pike. I arrived at around three o'clock and met Karol and Lee both experienced Pikers compared to me . .  . . . . Lol so I decided to hang around and get some tips off my new friends. 😁 Karol did not mess about and changed his old pike pencil to one of his new Glow In The Dark Pike Sliders and got to work. " Hang around here Mike and I will have a picture of a pike and the new slider float for you within the hour "  . . . . . I smiled and said " Ok mate your on "  The boys were struggling to be honest but they still had another hour and a half of light left to get a hook up. Four r

River Irwell Chub Fishing - Peanut & Eagal - Like Old Times - 02/01/2015

A BaldEagal - A Chub - And A Little Jigg. I have been fishing and drinking with John Doran AKA Baldeagal on and off for over 30 years, so, we are good mates as well fishing buddies. Today on The Chub Peg. In the Welcome Pub - Whitefield. From Left To Right, Me, Eagal & Horlicks. I love the Irwell even though its bloody hard going. Eagle gets out on it in the winter months sometimes but he hasn' t been on for a while - think he was a bit jealous of the chub I have bagged this season to be honest.....lol, anyway, I received a text off the Eagle saying he was going to have a dangle on the River Irwell for the chub. He had a two hour window to bag one. Not a lot of time but enough to have a good go at one peg.  I was a little late arriving at Eagles peg - I was on a Black Opps session for the pike in the reservoir above the river. "How you diddling Eagal" I shouted as I approached his peg though the bushes. His behatted bald napper tu
