New Porcupine Quill Stick Floats

Image
I have managed to get another pair of floats finished before the end of the year.😉 Below are a pair of .... "Porcupine Quill Stick Floats Simple floats made as I said from porcupine quill and an aluminium stem. Fluorescent orange / white paint, with black, blue and burgundy whippings with a 2020 signature to finish off the floats. I tried to make these floats as bomb proof as possible for roach fishing on the drop using caster, maggot or hemp in a good depth of water as that is how my mate likes to fish. 😊 I wanted to make one of these for myself and one for my friend and motivator.... " The Casteman" You have been no end of help and motivation in the past few years pal. PS: Congratulations on the fish of the year win from Salford Friendly Anglers, well deserved mate. Straight Sarkanda Wagglers.

Hi all, My next clutch of floats are six " Straight Sarkanda Wagglers" Four of these are in day glow red orange and yellow. The top two are G.I.T.D.  (Glow In The Dark) I tried a navy thread for these floats which I quite like. 😊 Made to take approximately 5 BB these are a great general float used for many species and situations. I have had a few myself on this style of float in the last few years !!!! 😁 TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1       Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!  http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/

Stained, Stepped Stick Floats for the New Pin

Image
Hi all, After looking in my float boxes I discovered a distinct lack of stick floats. (No surprise there hey lads.....lol) So a quick session on the lathe and I had a few bodies in hand for decoration. The first pair are heavy, made for shallow....ish fast runs and bigger baits, worm, bread, pellet etc.  Balsa was chosen for the body and alloy for the stem. I find the alloy stems gives me the best balance in the faster water. The bodies are stained chestnut brown, threads used where: Black Gold  Burgundy & Grey   I have made similar models to these before but longer in stem and body. In my huge collection of unfinished floats I did find a small unfinished body for a really shallow water stick.....a grayling float to be honest so.......I finished that one in metallic pearlescent blue, threads for this one where: Black Gold &  Red These smaller versions taking 5 No 4's and are just the job for really shallow runs for grayling, chub and barbel using small baits such as maggot

Glow In The Dark Sight Bob Wagglers

Finally finished this set of five floats off. These ..... "Glow In The Dark Sight Bob Wagglers" were made for fishing for tench and bream and will be shortly on their way to Norfolk where they shall be getting wet in the spring. Taking approximately four swan shot.  (6.4g) These are a reel pain for me to make but I do enjoy the finished article. I hope you like them. Old School Quills

Image
I have recently been asked to make a pair of Porcupine Quills for different light conditions. After a long conversation it was decided that the required quills would be inverted with one having a white and black tip, the other having a black and white tip. The thread colours were left in my hands so I opted for burgundy and black with a tiny splash of gold near the brass eye. Finished today these will probably be use next season for crucians and tench but may be used this winter for perch...... I have really enjoyed making this pair and may make a few others with different thread colours. I will be eagerly awaiting some feed back from this pair and hopefully get some fish and float pictures for my blog page below. Youngs Centerpin - The Christening.

Image
Hi all. After sorting out  my fishing gear after a two month lay off it was time to christen my new ...... B.J. Centerpin Real. I fancied a grayling and chub session using my Acolyte Plus for the christening but as I arrived at the tackle shop........ HORROR struck..... it was Closed !!!!! " Well, thats that " I thought. I drove home sulking as the earliest I could get bait was 10.00am Sunday morning. I gave  " The Casterman " a bell to see where he was off to on Sunday and inform him of my situation !!!!! " Don't worry Mike. I have enough maggots for the both of us ". With that problem solved we discussed where we were going to fish. I wasn't to bothered so Casterman chose the Ribble as he was after big roach as per usual !!!!!! When we arrived it was hammered !!!!!! We managed to find two un-fancied areas.....not real pegs.....just nice looking glides. I quickly realised that I didn't have a float in my bag for the job as it was a very deep g

Hi all....... I have been extremely busy at work the last few months and lost my fishing mojo for a while.  😔😔😔😔😔😔 A friend of mine whom I have fished with only once overheard me in the pub talking of my love for fishing the pin for grayling and chub in our northern rivers and how I would love a bob james real to go with my Acolyte. " I have one you can have mike.....I never use it" said Ronnie.  I said "Cheers mate, that would be great"  not really thinking much of it !!!!!!! A week later later I got a call of another pal, Mumfy telling me Ronnie is on holiday but he has a reel for me. Not expecting much I went to pick it up off  Mr Mumf. "Look at what a Ronnie has kindly given me......I think a bunch of floats is in order for this beauty !!!!!! This is a pic of the time Ronnie &  I fished together. Unfortunately no pic of Ronnie here but Mumfy is behind me. We where at Moss Farm Fisheries. Here's the bog link to the day. https://purplepean
