MK IV Irwell Sticks

Image
Hi all, I'm still on my quest for a shallow water stick float. The float below is the 4th style I have tried. The MK IV is shorter and wider then the previous styles and takes more weight, approximately 3g ..... ish. This particular float is for smaller pieces of bread, pellet and meat but will also present maggot and caster well when bulked shotted in faster flows. I only have the one at the moment and will test as soon as possible, probable for grayling on my local river. This particular float is for smaller pieces of bread, pellet and meat but will also present maggot and caster well when rigged with bulk shot in faster flows. Next will be a larger version for bigger pieces of bread, meat and paste. PS: I manage to get out this morinng after the ladies before the footbal started,  hooked seven, lost three, caught four , all from one run on the Irwell. All the fish were caught from a two and a half foot deep run just before a five foot drop off, drip feeding maggots and liquified

New Shallow Water Stick Testing Session Plus An Irwell Grayling

Image
Got a call this weekend from John Derbyshire asking to fish a certain stretch of the River Irwell. We arrived on the river at 09.00 I set up the new "Shallow Water Loaded Stick Float " and my Acolyte Plus.  ( New section aquired).  🙄 The run was only two and a half foot deep so ideal for these floats which are almost fully loaded. The Ginger Assassin was on the next peg up with a MK I Irwell stick. (You have that some years pal) so at least we could take the piss out of each other if we blanked.....lol The previous night I had been grayling hunting (pics below) on a stretch higher up river so I had a rig nearly ready. The liquidised bread went in first followed by some seed. Maggots  and seed would the be dripped in constantly with the odd ball of bread to top up the swim when it died a little. Basically I caught from start to finish. 09.00 - 14.00. Plenty long enough for me as I am not getting any younger. All caught on a centerpin and stick float set up. https://purplepea

Grayling Bobbers

Image
I was asked to make some  grayling bobbers  for a friend.  I have to be honest and say there is not much difference between these and my standard  perch bobbers accept that the stems are weighted to help with casting and to present the bait properly in running water. These are finished in fluorescent red / pink and orange with black, gold and purple thread plus a jay feather for decoration. I hope you like them. 😁 The smaller bobbers take around 3 AAA. The larger, orange grayling bobber takes around 6AAA TTFN   Peanut.      If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1        Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!    http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/

Irwell Sticks For The Rivers Don & Douglas.

Image
Busy with these at the moment . . . . but I love making them. My favourite float . . .  " The Irwell.Stick " The  " Irwell Stick "  was designed for fishing shallow river runs but is also been used as a general float for most species. John Derbyshire even uses them on the pole for margin fishing. They are at their best fishing 2 - 4 feet deep through slightly pacey run on a river or some where a standard sized alloy stick would struggle due to the extra pace and shallower water. I personally performed quite well using these last summer. 😉 The above caught on halibut pellet using  heavy Irwell stick  ( 4BB approximately) Below my first grayling from the Don on the same float. 😁  Until the next time. . . . . TTFN Peanut. If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats just hit the link. http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-2017.html?m=1 Join our club......I

Fluorescent Red Mini - Porcupine Quill Bobber .

Image
I love the look of these porcupine stemmed bobbers.  This is the second one I have made now and have really enjoyed making it. I can imagine my grandad using one of these on the River Eden bait fishing for trout where allowed. This traditional style bobber has a balsa body, a porcupine quill stem and a brass eye. The threads are black and violet and the paints are plain white and fluorescent pink / red. At home on the river trotting for grayling or in a lake for perch.  These floats are quite versatile and can be used to fish for a number of species. Margin fishing for carp is another popular use. I have a trip soon on which I am targeting grayling, a fish that has eluded me all these years.  Hopefully this float will be fully dry so I can get a traditional fish and float picture. If not.......... I have my childhood bobber on stand by.  😊 Lets hope the weather holds out Jordan. Until the next time. . . . .  TTFN Peanut. If

Heavy Wire Stemed Avon In Sexy Pink

Image
Here is the second addition to the  " Heavy Wire Stemed Avon " Range. It is the same weight as the original orange version but finished in sexy pink with silver thread and a jay feather inlay. This also 3 -4g (4 - 5 AAA ish ) with an alloy stem. This will be paired up with the original orange one for two friends to use in the River Ribble and the Dove. Lets hope we will be seeing both these floats in the new season next to some lovely captures. The ball is in your court gentlemen.  I've done my part. . . . . Lol Until the next time . . . . .
