Part II "Shouldered & Flared 4g Stcks For Long Trotting"

Image
Hi all, I kindly received an update on this set of floats just over a week after their completion. As stated on the previous post https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2023/10/sholdered-flared-4g-stcks-for-long.html "I was recently asked to make a set of 20 no 4 (4g) Shouldered Alloy Stick Floats for a trip on the River Itchen in the coming weeks. The floats are to be used for long trotting fishing six feet plus on some runs. Because of the distance these floats will be fished at I have kept the tips as wide as I possible could, flaring the taper out just before the shoulder, initially giving a wider tip before turning the shoulder/tip". These floats were made for grayling long trotting in swims from 4 to eight feet deep, The results speak for themselves . . . . . Pictures from the first session.   TTFN      Peanut. Hi all, I was recently asked to make a set of 20 no 4 (4g) Shouldered Alloy Stick Floats for a trip on the River Itchen in the coming weeks. The floats are to be used for long trotting fishing six feet plus on some runs. Because of the distance these floats will be fished at I have kept the tips as wide as I possible could, flaring the taper out just before the shoulder, initially giving a wider tip before turning the shoulder/tip. As requested the floats were stained to a dark oak finish with fluorescent orange tips plus a white collar. Black, crimson and rose gold were the threads colours used for this build. Hopefully I will soon see a plump agrayling next to one of these floats which reminds me, I must blow the cobwebs of my river gear and go fishing as I have not graced a river bank yet this season 😲😲😲😲 !!!!! New Wooden Line Winders For Medium to Large River Floats

Image
Morning all, I have just finished twenty... Wooden Line Winders For Medium to Large River Floats. I got sick of the plastic ones cracking/ breaking so decided to make some of my own. Not as artistic as making a float but very practical/ usefull. I make some fancy ones next year if I get time. 😁 These are quite deep on one side to fit larger bodied avons and stick floats as the middle peg is set deeper to accommodate a larger body size. All the winders below are made of both soft and hardwoods, stained , lacquer finished then signed. Here is how the winders look with some of my largest river floats on. 3AAA Avon 3 Swan Barbel Stick 2 Swan Cocobolo Harwood Stemed Heavy Stick Float. These should stand me in good stead for the coming winter but have started some more just incase as I know Salford Pete will want some...lol.
