Chubbers - 10g - Slate Grey & Charcoal

Image
Hi all, I have recently finshed a set of 5 x 10g Chubber Floats. The five below will be used mainly for fishing the Upper Thames for chub using bread and meat..amongst other baits. Made of balsa with a hardwood stem, three in slate grey and two in charcoal, all with black and violet whippings and a hand turned brass eye. I still have don't have one in my own tackle box so will be making a few more soon. 😁 TTFN      Peanut. Summer Camo.Avons-5BB--New Paint Job

Image
Hi all, I had a few spare bodies staring at me in my blank box over the last few months. In December I finally had a few hours spare to try out a new paint job. (New to me anyway) A few test cards later and some frustrated attempts I decided on three colours to play with, Eath Brown, Hunter Green & Canary Yellow plus Standard White and Fluorescent Orange, all of which I made myself. I kept the threads simple using only two, Yellow/gold and black. There are eight of these floats in total, all in balsa and with hardwood stems. Here is a short video of one float which shows it in great detail. I was expecting to ruin a few floats but luckily I didn't, also, I was not sure about the paint job initially as I usually like things crisp and precise which is the opposite of what I was trying to achieve with these floats, but, for a first attempt, I am rather please with the results. The Avons below have the same diameter balsa body, but, are heavier than the previous Alloy Stem Avons a

A Silver Doller Race Peanut Vs The Casterman

Image
Morning All, I have been itching to try my New/Old Drennan DRX so Casterman threw down an another silver doller race challange which I readily excepted. We both decided on re-visiting the same river we had our first roach match on where I was well beaten. Link below. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/10/peanut-vs-casterman-silver-dolla-race.html Our target species was obviously wild roach but on this new stretch there was a chance of a few lumps so geared up accordingly. Initially we both opted to fish the bollo/avon....but, after a frustrating hour with the wind tearing up the river I switched to 4AAA Slate Grey Antennae Waggler with instant results !!!!!! Derek was not far behind me with the float change but he opted for the sliding waggler. 1.5 hrs into the session we started putting together a few fish....stamp roach to be exact...derek could not keep the smile of his face.....he's roach mad....lol. As it is a new stetch to us a little experimenting was in order. Derek

River Ribble Shallow Water StickFloat Trial.

Image
Hi all,  I have been meaning to get on the banks with Craig Lutner for ages so when he asked for a specific loaded stick float for the shallow runs on the middle River Ribble I seized the oppotunity. The trip resutled in me popping my River Ribble Grayling cherry, four in fact. Craig had a lovely brace of chub one after the other plus multiple dace. Im happy with the floats performance so I will be getting some more turned today. Link to float blog below: https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2022/09/loaded-shallow-water-stick-floats-with.html No barbel this time .....but gives us an excuse to get out together once again. ☺ Can anyone ID this fish for me please? I have not fished the Ribble for while but I will be on the Lower Ribble this winter for silvers. Tight lines everyone. Irwell Stick - Chub On The Yarrow

Image
Hi all, I got out last week will an old fishing mate John Derbyshire. We havent been out together for ages due to covid and family commitments but managed a few, cold hours on the low and clear River Yarrow last week. John kindly offered to take me to a new stretch of the Yarrow. I always like trying out new places, especially small rivers.  As soon as I looked at the the river I new we were in for a tough session. As I said it was very low and very clear but John assured me we would do well as we tackled up at the car......thats when the banter began in ernest....there is never a dull moment fishing with john....if there is a short silence between us it will soon be followed by a verbal deconstuction of my set up and my gear..........even my cloths !!!!!! lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 We were both using  "Irwell Sticks" John was using the older more visable version and I was using the newer, stepped version both taking around  8 No 4s. We both started on the double peg which John s

Irwell Sticks - Stream Trotting with Adam Mack

Image
Hi all, I haven't been fishing since the last time I ventured out with Adam Mack but managed an aftetnoon yesterday on a couple of intimate streams most anglers would walk past. After some previous assistance from Adam I gifted him with one of my 5 no 4  Irwell Sick Floats below..... I'm not to happy as he used it better than I did on this outing.....🤬......lol. Not the best days fishing as Adam would admit.....but caught a few and as always a good laugh in his company. The plus side with going with Adam is its always a work out for me. He pushes me the go scrambling up and down swims a mountain goat would think twice about. 😆😆😆😆😆😆 Looking for ward to the next one Adam. Always a pleasure my friend. .............  Adam Mack putting an Irwell Stick to work on an intimate stream we fished yesterday Irwell Stick Floats. Prime Irwell Stick  territory. No lumps for me on this occasion but Adam had a couple just to show me what these stream can produce. TTFN   Peanut.   If you
