Olive Green, 10g Avons With Alloy Stems + Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems

Image
Morning everyone, I am back making some heavy river floats. The Olive Green, 10g Avons With Alloy Stems + Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems pictured below are made from Balsa with alloy and hardwood stems. When I use these avons it will be on the deeper runs with heavier baits on this river and are 19.5 cms in length.   The Heavy Irwell Sticks are for shallow, pacey runs, up to about four feet deep, also for use with all baits on the trent and are 13.5 cms in length. Finished with White, Olive Green, Flourescent orange and red/pink paints. Threads used are black and gold. I used mine this season in conjuction with these olivettes which have been quite useful saving me a few quid on conventional shot when fishing bulk down the line. Until the next time………. TTFN Peanut. Part II "Shouldered & Flared 4g Stcks For Long Trotting"

Image
Hi all, I kindly received an update on this set of floats just over a week after their completion. As stated on the previous post https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2023/10/sholdered-flared-4g-stcks-for-long.html "I was recently asked to make a set of 20 no 4 (4g) Shouldered Alloy Stick Floats for a trip on the River Itchen in the coming weeks. The floats are to be used for long trotting fishing six feet plus on some runs. Because of the distance these floats will be fished at I have kept the tips as wide as I possible could, flaring the taper out just before the shoulder, initially giving a wider tip before turning the shoulder/tip". These floats were made for grayling long trotting in swims from 4 to eight feet deep, The results speak for themselves . . . . . Pictures from the first session.   TTFN      Peanut. River Ribble Shallow Water StickFloat Trial.

Image
Hi all,  I have been meaning to get on the banks with Craig Lutner for ages so when he asked for a specific loaded stick float for the shallow runs on the middle River Ribble I seized the oppotunity. The trip resutled in me popping my River Ribble Grayling cherry, four in fact. Craig had a lovely brace of chub one after the other plus multiple dace. Im happy with the floats performance so I will be getting some more turned today. Link to float blog below: https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2022/09/loaded-shallow-water-stick-floats-with.html No barbel this time .....but gives us an excuse to get out together once again. ☺ Can anyone ID this fish for me please? I have not fished the Ribble for while but I will be on the Lower Ribble this winter for silvers. Tight lines everyone.
