River Ribble Shallow Water StickFloat Trial.

Hi all, 

I have been meaning to get on the banks with Craig Lutner for ages so when he asked for a specific loaded stick float for the shallow runs on the middle River Ribble I seized the oppotunity.

The trip resutled in me popping my River Ribble Grayling cherry, four in fact.

Craig had a lovely brace of chub one after the other plus multiple dace.
Im happy with the floats performance so I will be getting some more turned today.

No barbel this time .....but gives us an excuse to get out together once again.

Can anyone ID this fish for me please?

I have not fished the Ribble for while but I will be on the Lower Ribble this winter for silvers.

Mini Driftbeaters....The Christening

 Morning all , The day had come to christen our new prototype Mini Driftbeaters. With Salford Pete in tow we arrived at a local venue and set up ready for a days float fishing. I marched off in front to secure our pegs while Salford Pete seemed to take an age to arrive. He was talking and walking slowly to some other bloke I did not recognise. It was only when he got closer did I recognise my old mate  "The Castertman" He popped down to see another mate of his who was also fishing. We had a chat for five minutes then Casterman skipped off stating he would be back when we had both set up and started fishing. Ten minutes later me and the oldman were ready for the all in. I was fishing off the bottom initially to see if I could catch some of the good quality silvers which were present in the lake. Lathe Made Pike Bobber - First Effort. . . .😊

This is the first float to come off my new mini lathe. Its an old style " Pike Bobber Float " for live and dead baiting. It is a steep learning curve but, at last, I feel I have something to show all of you. 😊 Cork bodied (turned by myself ) with a birch stem. Jay feather inlay with two  satelliting jungle cock feathers. Fluorescent pink paint and a brass eye. This is how it looked fresh off the lathe . . . . As I said its a steep learning curve for me: 1) Using a lathe.  2) Working with cork. Both had their challenges but a feel I have come out of the other side with a pretty good effort. With a little more practise I feel I can get this pattern looking a much better. This is how it looks now. What do you think ? 😊 Any constructive criticism is always welcome.
