River Irwell PB On A New Mini- Alloy Stem Avon

Image
Hi all, I had a short session to test some Mini-Alloy Stem Avons out this morning and ... BOY.......AM I GLAD I DID !!!!!! I hoped down to the SFAs stretch of the Irwell to hopfully grab some grayling pictures with my new trotters. It was a smash and grab raid as I was taking out  T.O.W.M.B.O. (THE ONE WHO MUST BE OBAYED) out for an early Valentines Dinner. (So Im frantically witting this blog as Dudds has put me under some considerable pressure to get it to you tonight) 😆 I got up late to throw a spanner in the works as well. I managed a few coats of paint on some other floats I am currently making then it was off to the river. I had a few grayling within the first ten minutes so my pictures were in the bag early doors. 😁 I checked my pictures and concluded they where what I was after and therefore could now relax for the next hour, enjoying the peace of being out in the fresh air as the new avon meandered along then bobed under  "Hmm another lady I thought"...... the the

FLOAT MAKING PART 6 - PEANUTS STICK FLOAT TESTING SESSION WITH THE CASTERMAN.

STICK FLOATS - TESTING TIMES ON THE RIVER IRWELL. On Sunday morning, with a certain amount of trepidation, I took my new stick floats out from their holding tube, placed them in my tackle box and went to meet      " The Casterman " for our stick float fishing trial. I felt like a kid on exam day. I have put a LOT of effort into making these floats. Raw material sourcing and trialling etc. not to mention the amount of time it takes to make just one float so I was hoping they gave a good account of themselves !!!!!!!  A quick brew and I was off, river levels were on their way down and temperatures were on their way up, favourable conditions, no excuses there then. :) .... lol.     I pulled up in the car park near our stretch of River for the day ......... - No sign of  " The CasterMan " - he is usually early !!!!!! A quick text too Casterman -………..no reply ……………………………., but, not to worry his motor pulled up next to me and he jumped out full of beans .

BIGGEST IRWELL FISH TO DATE.  12.03.14 Had a couple of hours on the Irwell in (Little Britain Anglers Stretch on Wednesday 12th March. In typical "Peanut" style all best laid plans fell apart. I was planning on fishing from 10.00 - 12.30 just a quick season to see if I could winkle out a chub. Firstly, I was late, which I hate being & had to be back at................... " The Place Where Smiles go to dye" Formally known as work for 13.45....:( I arrive at the Elton Tackle shop bang on 09.00 and the bugger was shut !!!!!!...Bo##ocks...... So, after a few shall we say " Choice words " I sped off to Fisherman Way which Thank The Lord was open for business. With a pint of grubs and some bits and bobs I high tailed it off back to Radcliffe where I had planed my short river session. By the time I got there it was 10.45 and my plans were falling apart rappido . I was not a happy little Peanut at this stage............. :( A quick natte
