Image
I try to make a few floats every Christmas for my fishing club " Salford Friendly Anglers " This years offering is a pair of  " Sarkanda Reed Inserted Wagglers " I would have made a few more but time has been tight this year due to my hospital visit, being  Best Man at a wedding in Cyprus  and of course work but at least I have a pair ready for the Christmas raffle. If you would like to buy some raffle tickets to win some handcrafted floats made by myself they are only available at the venue which is " The Star Inn " 2 Back Hope Street, Salford M7-2FR On Wednesday 19th December. The Christmas meeting starts at  19.30 - 19.45. Its a good night out which I look forward to every year. I will be there with  " Salford Pete " and  " The Casterman "  is bringing down the Bury Crew down to  " The Big Smoke "  . . . . .lol. I would also like to take this opportunity

River Irk - Manchesters Future Gem.

Irwell Sticks On The Irk !!!!!!!!!!!! With a spare couple of hours this morning I headed of to the River Irk for the first time. I new it was going to be a VERY difficult couple of hours as the fish population density is minute, a lot less than the Irwell and would benefit from some stocking.......If you are listening........ E.A. .........!!!!!!!! A few brave pioneering souls like Phil Clayton , Michael Duddy, Adam Mack , Richard O'Riely & Paul James to mention but a few have lead the way regarding this little River so with big shoes to fill I headed off for my first session. I had looked at the river the day before and it was virtually un-fishable 4ft up,  batting through and deep chocolate in colour. Today, however, she was still carrying extra water but had dropped to about 1.5 feet above normal levels and just had a bit of colour. She looked pretty good to be honest so I grabbed my gear from the mighty Megan and made my way to the first run hoping for a chub

River Irwell Match - The SFA Lads Hit Town

River Irwell Bream...... Sunday was the Salford  Friendly Anglers gathering on the River Irwell in Lower Broughton and I was really looking forward to it as it was my first session on the river this season due to work and family commitments. We were meeting at 4.30 next to the river . I gave Casterman a buzz to see if he had set off about  4.00 ish “ I am already here lad “ came the reply in a deep Lancastrian accent……..My car was already loaded and with a quick good by to  “ Salford Pete “  I was on my way to a bit of river I have been meaning to fish for years. As I pulled up there were already 3 or 4 cars parked up………but where was Casterman ??????????? A quick phone call was made to assertain his location ……….. typical………….he was out rekeying the pegs to let other people know which pegs where worth fishing.  I meet a few people I have talked to on face book but never met in person, Craig was there to , so we had a quick wonder upstream to giv

Float Making Demonstration - Salford Friendly Anglers

18.02.15 S.F.A. Meeting.  Float making Demonstration. It was with some trepidation when I clocked out of work on Wednesday 18th February 2015 that was the night of my float making demonstration for Salford Friendly Anglers. Michael Duddy - our club chairman - can be  very persuasive at times, two weeks ago for example when I receive a PM from Mr Duddy stating :  " I have put you down for a float making demo on the 18th of Feb....ok pal "  omg........lol Now, as you all know I only started making my own floats at Christmas and an expert I most certainly am not,  especially lecturing to the very people I have admired over the last couple of years such as Michael himself AKA " Manchester Fishing Fiend " David Parr AKA " The Meddy Man "  & Adam Mack AKA " Manchester Percheur "  not to mention " The Casterman " & " Bald Eagle " so , we can safely say.......I was a s

STICK FLOAT FISHING - THE MAIDEN VOYAGE OF AN IRWELL STICK FLOAT.

A REVIEW OF MIKES STICK FLOATS BY THE CASTERMAN. After all the hard work Mike had put in making his stick floats I thought it only right to join him in giving them there first maiden voyage on the Irwell. Mikes latest addition was a lovely crafted wired steamed stick float, which I was keen to try out. Mike had aptly name them Irwell stick floats and they look the business nicely balanced, mine having a very bright pink top ideal for long range trotting. I don't usually fish the Irwell in the mornings, preferring an evening session as I've had my best catches as the lights going. From left to right. Irwell Stick Float , Alloy StickFloat. I gave Mike the choice of swims and I fished next peg up within shouting distance should one of us get in to a fish. The river had about 10inchs on it and know doubt full of melt water, not the best of conditions but at least it was on its way down. We had a pint wagered on the first to catch, and it wasn't long before Mike wa
