Ivory Avons.

Image
A prial of 5 BB " Ivory Avons " Sporting balsa bodies plus cane tips & stems. The tips are all fluorescent day glow orange and the threads used were black violet and gold. I quiet like the look of these and will be making a few more in various colours in the near future both with cane and alloy stems. One is for  " The Casterman " Lets hope he can get me some fish and float pictures. 😁 TTFN Peanut. New Glow In The Dark & Fluorescent Porcupine Quills

Image
After my first attempt at antique looking porcupine quills  . . . . . http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2018/01/retro-quills-for-summer-tenching.html?m=1 I quite fancied making  some more but with a more modern look. I decided to make just two floats to begin with. One float in  " Glow In The Dark Yellow " and the second in  " Day Glow Red / Pink ". Taking approximately 3BB the glow in the dark quill has multiple white and yellow segments near the tip of the float to aid in bite detection, metallic gold whippings, a violet band in the centre and black tippets on both ends. The painted section is a favourite colour of mine !!!! Metallic Pearlescent Blue. Looks great when the suns rays hit it. 😁 The red / pink tipped quill is made in a similar style but I have emitted the gold whippings and used a rich, vibrant red in its place. The central violet band is also absent on this float as I decided to leave it bare to show of t

Barbel Fishing With Andrew Boyne

Image
I kicked of my river season yesterday on the Ribble trying out a new waggler plus a few sticks floats. Traffic was good for a change as I made way up the M61. I couldn't wait to see the river again. . . that wait seamed like years.... !!!!!! When I arrived the river was one her bones !!!!! I had never seen the Ribble this low before !!!!!! Most of the pegs were unfishable for me with the floats I wanted to use.  There was either no flow or too much pace. I opted for a gravel run at the end of a deep,  virtually still pool.  There was more pace on my peg as it shallowed up to about three feet . . . at least it would move the sticks along. As I was running a new stick float through the swim there was a massive CRASH !!!!!!!  I nearly jumped out of my waders !!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 A fish had leaped clean out of the water and crashed back into the deeper part of the pool to my left. I got a clean visual of it as crashed down the second time. It was a salmon of aro

A New Balsa Stick Float

Image
I have just completed a new  " Balsa, Domed Stick Float With An Alloy Stem " I have given this particular float a day glow red/ pink tip and a white contrast band plus black, scarlet and violet whippings. The dome is twice the width of a standard  " Retro Stick Float "  to enable use with bigger baits or for trotting at distance. Great if your eyes are not the best . . . . . . . .   like mine !!!!!!! This is a prototype and takes 7 no 4s to cock it. I am very happy with the way it looks so I have left the float featherless for a change as I feel it would detract, not enhance the floats appeal. I am sure Andrew will let me know how it performs. In the meantime I think I will make a few more of these for when we hit the  River Ribble  on opening day of the season if all goes to plan. . . . . Lol I have also personalised the float with the nick name of his new born daughter. Until the next time. . . . . TTFN Peanu

Inserted Feather Inlay Wagglers

Image
A set of six inserted wagglers withe day glow pink and yellow tips, all with feather inlays. These tend to be a summer float for me.  I use this patterm for fishing on the drop and up in the water on lakes and rivers. This particular set takes approximately 4AAA plus in weight each to cock the float. Never any stress making these . . . .  In fact its like therapy for me  Lol. Baby Chubbers

Image
The first chubber I made was a bit of a beast taking 7 swan shot  . . . . . . http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/12/new-chubber-float-in-metallic.html?m=1 so I thought I would make a couple of pairs for general and light fishing. Below is the smallest of the new chubbers. This pair does not have any coloured paint on the body apart from the white and Pink / yellow fluorescent on the tips.  All the rest of the floats colour is produced by thread which are . . . Black Gold Violet & Blue. These are without doubt the hardest floats I have ever made and took ALL my patience to complete them. It is not so much the difficulty but the size of this build that gave me multiple issues. I have very small hands and fingers and still struggled.  I have added a 5 pence piece to the picture to give you some kind of scale regarding the size of the floats. These will be useful bit if kit on a lot of rivers I fish and also for up in the water fishing for carp,
