Fluted, Inverted Teardrop, Alloy Stem Avons.

Image
Morning all, I have just finished two new floats. "Inverted Teardrop, Alloy Stem Avons" Taking approximately 3 no 4s (0.6 g) for light river work. I have made these mainly for my own interest as I have never seen this combination before and thought it may suit the way I fish when after silvers using a closed face reel in blustery conditions, hopfully, stopping/reducing the need for back shotting and enabling tighter control of the the line/float.....we shall see!!!! Raw materials used were balsa and alloy for the stem with charcoal, white and fluorescent orange paints, finished with black whippings. Below are a couole of comparison picture showing the size of the smaller, wire stem floats to the larger wooden stem floats. TTF PS: I managed to finish another one this morning.  😊      Peanut. Goose Quill & Crow Quill Tipped Fluted Avones With Hardwood Stems.

Morning all, Below are some experimental floats. (For me anyway) I do not have much experience of using quills for floats. The only ones I have made before are porcupine quills. So I was quite pleased to see the pair below to completion. I have made one of each for now. A Goose Quill & Crow Quill Tipped Fluted Avons With Hardwood Stems.  TTFN      Peanut. Heavy Inverted Tear Drop Fluted Avon With A Hardwood Stem

Image
Hi all, I have found a float I had forgotton about from last year. A Heavy, Inverted, Tear Drop, Fluted Avon With A Hardwood Stem. Once again this is inteded for the Wye this coming summer. Intended for use with bigger baits this float takes more weight than the aluminium stem versions made previously coming in at appromimately 8g. Paints used were olive green, white and fluorescent orange. Threads used were black and gold. A simple enough float but a design I personally like a lot. TTFN      Peanut. Fluted Avons In Olive Green

Image
Hi all, I have had some car issues lately but have managed to finish this pair of .... "Flutted Avons In Olive Green" The float in the foreground (right) has a hardwood tip, the float in the background (left) has a crow quill tip. Both floats painted with olive green, white and fluorescent pink/red tips, finished with black and gold threads.   With balsa bodies and harwood stems these floats will be used for my roach fishing when I eventually get out !!!! My 1st Fluted Float - 7AAA Oval Flutted Avon

Image
Hi all, Out of all the fishing floats I have seen the fluted floats, to me, can be the most decorative and I have waited a long time to attempt this pattern so I can, hopefully do it justice. I have never made a fluted float before so, please, be gentle with me....lol...😆 I have kept the first design simple and will proceed to try and master the bastics before I try anything fancy. So, below, is a 7AAA Oval Fluted Avon for barbel and chub fishing made with a balsa body and a hardwood stem, fnished with white, fluorescent orange and olive green paints. Threads used where black and gold.  Its a bit rough and ready for my taste but thought I would share and take you on my flutted float making journey as we are not born experts !!!!! I am reasonably happy with this for a first effort but will be looking to improve on this float considerably in the next coming months I have a barbel and chub fishing trip coming up next year so want to perfect this pattern ready for the long await...
