Salford Pete-Commercial Bagging

Image
It was high time my dad and I had a fishing session together so after work we popped down to my local commercial carp fishery in Yorkshire. I recently purchased a new rod for  "Salford Pete" I opted for a 13ft Korum Glide, ideal for my dads style of fishing and quite robust incase if any accidental knocks. So, with his new bit if kit my old man was itching to wet a line. I helped set him up  ( Purely for speed as it was 17.00 when we arrived ) on his Bodied Antenea Waggler which I made for him which he loves for maggot fishing. I lumped in three jaffers of my special commie ground bait mix so dad could just flick maggots in over the top and catch anything that came around. Due to the short time we had (3 hrs) I decided to cocentrate on one line down the left hand side.  My attack was three Jaffers of special commie mix, half a pint of hemp plus a few grains of corn. I also had some paste mix I made up in case they were a little hesitant taking corn. Before I could wet a line

I started fishing with my dad when I was 5 years old, I am am now in my 50's, "Salford Pete" is in his late 70's.....so when he asked to come to Yorkshire for a day or two fishing I was over the moon. 😁😁😁😁 We haven't been fishing together for a few years and were both looking forward for a couple of days together. My old man arrived at my place of work around 15.00. I nipped out, dropped the house key off with him, finished my shift, then met up at the house. I had already sorted out Salfords gear out and mine is always ready. "Dad, what we doing? "Are you tired after the drive?" "Yeah, a bit", "Lets go fishing tomorrow". "We can have a few pints in Pocklington tonight" I was also a bit tired after work so we had a few local pints. I introduced my dad to pint of Farmers Blond Ale which he really liked and one I also like when having more than a few. 😉 We had a couple of brandy and cokes back at the house, just gla

Salford Pete & The Casterman - A Dream Realised. Approximately thirty five years ago - 1976 ish - I caught the bus every other Saturday with my dad AKA  " Salford Pete "  to the old Victoria Bus Station off Chapel Street in the centre of Manchester. On our walk to the Arndale Centre I would always ask my dad to stop on Victoria Bridge, so I could dreamily look down at the solid, dark depths of the River Irwell and think" One day, one day I will catch fish from this river with my dad " I would then be dropped back down to earth with a bang by my dad as his answer was always the same.....  " It won't happen in my lifetime son ".  This answer always saddened me simply because I new my old man would love to catch fish from the River Irwell as he remembers what it was like in the 50's & 60's, a stinking cesspit !!!!!!! Victoria Bus Station.   Victoria Bridge. Manchester Town Center.   Little did I know tha
