Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems

Image
Morning all, I have been promising myself that I would make some more... "Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems"  since the trip to the River Wye with John Derbyshire. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2024/07/river-wye-day-2-01072024.html A couple of weeks ago I managed to get on the lathe and get some bodies turned. These come in at 6.5g and I will be making some larger ones a.s.a.p. These floats proved extremely usefull when shallow water trotting on the faster stretches of the Wye in Herefordshire. The fish (above) were caught holding back hard then letting the float travel down the swim about half the pace of the river on large pieces of lucheon meat I am also going to try these on the River Ribble this winter and should also double up as perch live bait floats TTFN.      Peanut. Inserted 50:50 Camo Green Wagglers + Heavy Hardwood Stem Irwell Sticks

Happy New Year All. This quartet are my last floats of 2023. Inserted 50:50 Small Camo Green Wagglers + Heavy Hardwood Stem Irwell Sticks. The wagglers will mainly be used for tench at close quarters, the sticks for bigger baits on faster, shallow river stretches. Wagglers are Sarkanda and the sticks are balsa, all with hardwood stems. I have looked at the river many times overr the  Christmas period without finding a decent period to fish. Lets hope the new year is a little more clement. Tight lines and Happy New Year. Large Harwood Stem Irwell Sicks

Image
Hi all, Here are some additions for my trip to the Wye next summer. The floats below are  "5AAA Hardwood Stem Irwell Sicks" Finished in balsa with a harwood stem, black / gold threads with charcoal, white paints plus fluorescent orange tips. I have made the above for swims with a more powerful flow than normal and are capable of suspending big pieces of bread meat and paste and will be a welcome addition to mine and Johns float box. New 11g Barbel Stick

Image
Hi all, As I have got older in years I am not much of a summer angler prefering the autum and winter months. Below is the largest stick I have made to date. The smaller float is a MKIV Irewll Stick for comparison. The "Heavy Barbel Stick" above comes in at 11 plus grammes (7 swan old money) and will be used for chub and barbel in the coming colder months. I will use this when fishing specific runs on the Irwell where it is just too deep for the Irwell Sticks. TTFN      Peanut. Mini-Irwell Sticks

Image
Hi all, Below are a pair of..... Mini-Irwell Sticks, one grey, one green. I love these floats for fishing small rivers and streams where three feet is a good depth. The floats below do not take a lot of shot, approximately 4 no 4s and are at their best fished shirt button style in up to four feet of water. Some captures on Irwell Sticks. TTFN      Peanut.
