Margin Carp Stalker - Sarkanda Waggler

Image
Another float I have been meaning to make for quite some time is a " Margin Carp Stalker " Float. This one is my first and is  approximately 13 cm or 5 " in length. The threads used where black, metallic gold and two shades of violet plus a small brass eye. I have included my Trudex Centerpin to give the picture some scale. I have a very modest carp pb at approximately 11 lbs caught thirty five years ago ( I don't do much still water fishing )  so I am looking forward to catching a few still water lumps with one of these little fellas. 😁 Its great for dropping down the side in the shallows for carp and tench and I can see a few more being made in the near future. 😁   I have been also been persuaded by a few friends to fish a few commercial matches in the closed season. I don't think I will blow the cobwebs off the pole just yet hence the reason for making this stalking float to be used for 2 " Down The Side

Wagglers In Thiland With A VIP

Image
Ste recently took a set of my Feather Inlay Inserted Wagglers on a trip to Thailand. Little did I know they would be inspected by none other than the fishing legend himself " John Wilson " Pictures taken at Johns fishing mecca in Thailand. http://www.fishthailand.co.uk/john_wilson_fishing_lake_thailand.html I asked Ste if there was any recommendations he had to improve my waggler pattern. I wasn't expecting  them to be inspected by,  in my eyes. . a living legend   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲 In the last picture John is pointing to the eye at the base of the float which is quite small as it is for general coarse fishing. For Johns style of fishing which is the lift method near lilies and snags he recommended that the eyes diameter be increased in size to allow it to run free up and down the main line and to avoid it getting jammed with weed. Definitely something to think about for a specialist type of waggler. 😊 Than

Irwell Sticks For The Rivers Don & Douglas.

Image
Busy with these at the moment . . . . but I love making them. My favourite float . . .  " The Irwell.Stick " The  " Irwell Stick "  was designed for fishing shallow river runs but is also been used as a general float for most species. John Derbyshire even uses them on the pole for margin fishing. They are at their best fishing 2 - 4 feet deep through slightly pacey run on a river or some where a standard sized alloy stick would struggle due to the extra pace and shallower water. I personally performed quite well using these last summer. 😉 The above caught on halibut pellet using  heavy Irwell stick  ( 4BB approximately) Below my first grayling from the Don on the same float. 😁  Until the next time. . . . . Sarkanda Loaded Waggler

Image
I really enjoy playing with new raw materials. For the last couple of weeks I have been playing with . . . . . .  " Sarkandas Reed " I have a few on the go but this is the first one to be completed. Day glow red / pink is the indicating tip colour paired with a white contrast band. The thread chosen was black, scarlet, purple and gold. The base was loaded to aid casting distance an balance. The float will be used for tench, bream & carp at distance but is equally at home on deep slow flowing rivers. I rather like this one even though it is a little on the blingy side on the float making spectrum . . .  Lol 🤣  Lets see how the others turn out !!!! Until the next time. . . . . TTFN Peanut. A New Balsa Stick Float

Image
I have just completed a new  " Balsa, Domed Stick Float With An Alloy Stem " I have given this particular float a day glow red/ pink tip and a white contrast band plus black, scarlet and violet whippings. The dome is twice the width of a standard  " Retro Stick Float "  to enable use with bigger baits or for trotting at distance. Great if your eyes are not the best . . . . . . . .   like mine !!!!!!! This is a prototype and takes 7 no 4s to cock it. I am very happy with the way it looks so I have left the float featherless for a change as I feel it would detract, not enhance the floats appeal. I am sure Andrew will let me know how it performs. In the meantime I think I will make a few more of these for when we hit the  River Ribble  on opening day of the season if all goes to plan. . . . . Lol I have also personalised the float with the nick name of his new born daughter. Until the next time. . . . . TTFN Peanu

Rudd Floats For Holland

Image
I was asked by a friend if I would slightly modify my baby chubbers for rudd fishing. Making these floats however makes the air blue in my house they are that difficult and time consuming to make but I finally have a pair of " Dutch Rudd Floats " To show you. The two small modifications I made were, firstly, to incorporate a small insert on the top of the floats and secondly, I decided a reduction in the stem width was warranted, mainly for aesthetic reasons. These are the results below. Two Dutch Rudd Floats Ready for the summer. 😉 I hope you can get me some fish and float pictures my friend. 😁 Rudd pictures are missing from my gallery. I have one around 10 oz which I caught on a local club water but hardly a specimen fish. JaySS gave me a picture of a beauty about 3 lb but that's it, a few more would be fantastic. 😊 Until the next time. . . . .  TTFN Peanut. If you would like to look at my
