Purplepeanut007 PP007 FLOAT MAKING & FISHING ADVENTURES - THE RIVER IRWELL AND BEYOND.

 Hi all, I had a few spare bodies staring at me in my blank box over the last few months. In December I finally had a few hours spare to try out a new paint job. (New to me anyway) A few test cards later and some frustrated attempts I decided on three colours to play with, Eath Brown, Hunter Green & Canary Yellow plus Standard White and Fluorescent Orange, all of which I made myself. I kept the threads simple using only two, Yellow/gold and black. There are eight of these floats in total, all in balsa and with hardwood stems. Here is a short video of one float which shows it in great detail. I was expecting to ruin a few floats but luckily I didn't, also, I was not sure about the paint job initially as I usually like things crisp and precise which is the opposite of what I was trying to achieve with these floats, but, for a first attempt, I am rather please with the results.  Hi all, I have been working on some new "Roach Avons With Alloy Stems"  for a few weeks now and finally finished them last night. There are twelve floats in total, all taking appromimately 1.0 gm or 5 no 4s Made mainly for finicky feeding roach on slow to medium pace rivers at close range, up to two rod lengths out in the right conditions.  All these floats have balsa bodies, alloy stems and neutral densisty hardwood tips. Hunter Green, Earth Brown, Slate Grey and Crimson Red where the colours of choice for this group of floats. All were finished with fluorescent orange tips and black / gold thread.  Hi all, After a fishing free month for me (to much going on at home and work) I finally manage to get out this weekend with Adam Mack. We fished a new stretch of river to Adam and a totally new river for me. Both fishing Irwel Sticks (Adams standard & mine a loaded stick) our targets for the day where roach and chub. I have not seen Adam for ages so we had plenty of catching up to do. I love exploring new stretches of river and this session didn't dissapoint me. Fighting our way through ivy and dense nettle beds we found a lovely glide with a little more depth than the rest of the small stretch we had found. I stayed on the run introducing free offerings of liquidised bread and maggots while Adam nipped back to the car for the gear......  Morning all, I have just finished twenty... Wooden Line Winders For Medium to Large River Floats. I got sick of the plastic ones cracking/ breaking so decided to make some of my own. Not as artistic as making a float but very practical/ usefull. I make some fancy ones next year if I get time. 😁 These are quite deep on one side to fit larger bodied avons and stick floats as the middle peg is set deeper to accommodate a larger body size. All the winders below are made of both soft and hardwoods, stained , lacquer finished then signed. Here is how the winders look with some of my largest river floats on. 3AAA Avon 3 Swan Barbel Stick 2 Swan Cocobolo Harwood Stemed Heavy Stick Float.  Hi all, I have made a pair of river wagglers (Elongated sight tips)  while I had a little time on my hands. I don't often use these myself but when I I needed one this summer of course, the float box was empty ....lol. Threads used were black, violet, metallic golden blush, crimson, and black,  I needed one for fishing the Irwell three quarters of the way across the river using big pieces of bread after the bream and guess what?.....I didn't have any in my tube hence the pair you see below. I will also be making a few more before Christmas in various colours. Also,  I may add a very small band of black to the later additikns to help with indication when fishing in changing light conditions.
