Painted & Stained Avons with Hardwood Stems

Image
Hi all, Below are a pair of  "Painted & Stained Avons" These are the same build as the previous balsa avons (4AAA + ) but this pair exhibit a greater amount of un-painted balsa on the body compared to the previous, fully painted versions. Paints used were pastle yellow, white and fluorescent orange. Threads used were black and yellow. I tried to make these look traditional but I do like my fluorescent tips. Four more of these are half finished and should be completed over the Christmas period. I would also like to make these out of cork and have an order of cork coming, let's see if it arrives before christmas so I can get craking on the turner. Various Hardwood Stemmed Avons

Image
Hi all, I decided to go right back to basics with this set of floats. Believe it or not the avon is a float I hardly ever use, leaning towards stick float fishing instead. Below are several different colours of my  "Hardwood Stemmed Avon Floats" There is always something attractive about simplicity if you can get it right and hopefully, with this batch I have done just that. I have made the first four of these floats in different colours as I have not settled for a standard colour yet but I am leaning towards both the light grey and  mustard. All the floats below have dark, harwood stems, orange fluorescent tips, black whippings and a painted, coloured body. All are approximately 4AAA/ 3.2 gram.  TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1       Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!  http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/

Hardwood stemmed Stick Floats

Image
Hi all, Below are two floats I have had on the go for a while. Both floats are turned from balsa fitted with a ferruled hard wood stem. The larger float is for deeper water and the shorter float is for faster, shallower runs. Finished with a grey painted body, fluorescent orange tip, with black and slate whippings. I have made these for pin fishing hopefully on the Yorkshire Derwent this winter using bread as bait. I hope you like them. Ivory Baby Bobbers

Image
With my latest quartet of  " Baby Bobbers " I have tried to tone these down a little and make them a little more traditional.  I started well keeping to my ivory colour combination but fell down at the base stem whipping stage and just had to add a little bling . . . . . Lol. The silver metallic thread is slightly more subtle than my standard gold thread and really goes with this set.  Finished in ivory, black, silver, violet and various fluorescent clour tips.😁 The bobbers take approximately 3AAA and can be used for perch, grayling and jack pike using maggots, casters, small worms and live fry etc. I am very happy with the way these have turned out even if I went off plan slightly . Lol. 🤣 Until the next time. TTFN Peanut. Small Multi - Coloured Sight Bob Wagglers.

Image
Here is a twist on my . . . . Sight Bob Wagglers. I have made these in five different colours. . . . From left to right . . . Metallic Pearlescent Green Metallic Pearlescent Egg Shell Blue Metallic Pearlescent Blue Metallic Pearlescent Royal Red and Classic Peanut Purple. 😉 Although designed with tench and bream in mind and taking approximately 4AAA plus these floats will work well for most species of still water fish. What do you think about the colours ??? I have a few more to add yet. . . . Stay tuned. 😁 Until the next time.  😊 TTFN Peanut If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats just hit the link. http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-2017.html?m=1 Join our club Its free !!!!!! http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/

" The Irwell Stick " My Favourite Float of All

Image
" The Irwell Stick " I have caught more fish on this float than any other !!!!!!  This is a simple looking float but probably the most versatile float I use. Its main us is for shallow, pacey runs on a river. Great for all species when using all but the biggest of hook baits. Great for fishing down the side on commercials or poking your rod through the trees when stalking carp. This float is definitely the first pattern in my tackle box. Its "Castermans " favourite to.  😊 This set is bound for a life winding down the river Douglas. I also have a set of large Irwell sticks on the go. I will post when complete. 😊 Here are some " Irwell Stick " caught fish. 😊 Not all my fish btw......lol Until the next time . . . . .
