Painted & Stained Avons with Hardwood Stems

Hi all,

Below are a pair of 

"Painted & Stained Avons"





These are the same build as the previous balsa avons (4AAA + ) but this pair exhibit a greater amount of un-painted balsa on the body compared to the previous, fully painted versions.

Paints used were pastle yellow, white and fluorescent orange.

Threads used were black and yellow.




I tried to make these look traditional but I do like my fluorescent tips.

Four more of these are half finished and should be completed over the Christmas period.

I would also like to make these out of cork and have an order of cork coming, let's see if it arrives before christmas so I can get craking on the turner.

Mini Driftbeaters....The Christening

 Morning all , The day had come to christen our new prototype Mini Driftbeaters. With Salford Pete in tow we arrived at a local venue and set up ready for a days float fishing. I marched off in front to secure our pegs while Salford Pete seemed to take an age to arrive. He was talking and walking slowly to some other bloke I did not recognise. It was only when he got closer did I recognise my old mate  "The Castertman" He popped down to see another mate of his who was also fishing. We had a chat for five minutes then Casterman skipped off stating he would be back when we had both set up and started fishing. Ten minutes later me and the oldman were ready for the all in. River Irwell PB On A New Mini- Alloy Stem Avon

 Hi all, I had a short session to test some Mini-Alloy Stem Avons out this morning and ... BOY.......AM I GLAD I DID !!!!!! I hoped down to the SFAs stretch of the Irwell to hopfully grab some grayling pictures with my new trotters. It was a smash and grab raid as I was taking out  T.O.W.M.B.O. (THE ONE WHO MUST BE OBAYED) out for an early Valentines Dinner. (So Im frantically witting this blog as Dudds has put me under some considerable pressure to get it to you tonight) 😆 I got up late to throw a spanner in the works as well. I managed a few coats of paint on some other floats I am currently making then it was off to the river. I had a few grayling within the first ten minutes so my pictures were in the bag early doors. 😁 I checked my pictures and concluded they where what I was after and therefore could now relax for the next hour, enjoying the peace of being out in the fresh air as the new avon meandered along then bobed under  "Hmm another lady I thought"...... the the
