Oval & Inveted Tear Drop Fluted Avons.

Image
Hi all, This is my second attempt at a fluted float. This is a large float, simple in decor, built for certain sections of the River Wye, which I have yet to have the pleasure of fishing but if its anything like the Severn it should serve well for fishing with larger, heavier baits like meat, large pellet & paste. I have added an aluminium stem to the larger float pattern for stability as it will be used in the faster stretches of the river targeting barbel and chub. The floats weight capacity is approximately 8g or 5 swan in old money. All the raw materials are from my standard floatmaking stock it is the flutting that make these floats different. The smaller oval avons are much lighter taking 3-4g and made for my roach and chub fishing. All have alloy stems for better stability. Two are for larger bait and have a wide diameter red/pink tip. The other float has a finer tip for maggot and caster fishing. I will, hopefully, test these by the end of the month on the River Ribble or

Large Avons, Hardwood & Alloy Stems

Image
Morning all, I have just finished a pair of .. Large Avons with Hardwood & Alloy Stems. These are made from balsa with black and grey whippings, an orange fluorescent tip plus a 50% grey body. These floats take approximately 6 SSG. The above floats will work well in faster, deeper runs but are mainly used for biggers baits such as meat, bread, pellet and paste. 😁 TTFN      Peanut. Mornig all, I have been struggling for time recently but have finishished these...... Blue 50:50 Avons, Fat Tipped, with a Wooden Stem for a while now and are destined for action on the the River Rhine in Holland. They were finished as follows:  Balsa bodies with a hardwood stems. Stained to a dark oak finish, with black and yellow whippings and brass eyes. The weight range is from 8g to 3g  I must confess the 8g pair are for me for fishing meat on the Derwent this summer. 😁 TTFN      Peanut. Avons, Yelow 50:50 3g, Alloy Stem

Image
Morning all, I am getting ready for the 16th already and still playing with avons. Here are two 3g in yellow which is a colour I do not use very often. My main attack with these floats is maggot, caster and bread punch on slow to medium floawing rivers. Roach dace and chub being the main quarry. I am starting to build up a nice collection of these now.  Bring on the 16th of June. TTFN      Peanut. Short Fat Tipped Avon in Black & Stain

Image
Morning all, Continuing with my current avon fixation I have made a pair below, one 50% black body & one with 100% black body, both in harwood and balsa, with jet black, white and fluorescent orange paint plus black & violet threads. The floats below are another variation of the short, wide tipped avon I have been making and trialing recently, I have been very pleased with the out come but only a few pics as of yet. The alloy stem version was the only one I managed to use before the season closed sadly. TTFN Peanut.
