Pacemaker - First Dunking - Short Session On The River Irwell, Manchester

Image
Having sorted out some things at home earlier in the day and applying some further lacquer coats to various floats I found myself with three hours to kill. I was going to have another crack at grayling on the Goyt but didn't fancy getting caught in rush hour traffic on the M60 on the way home so opted for a  " Smash & Grab Raid " On my local stretch of the Irwell. I nearly didn't go fishing at all but a phone call and a quick roasting off " The Casterman " Saying  . . . .. " Get out there while the weather's good " made me get my kit together and test out one of the best looking floats I have made to so far I got a wiggle on and was there for 15.00. The first peg was one I had fished before. A good fast paced run for testing my new " Pacemaker " http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/medium-pacemaker-my-best-float-to-date.html?m=1 I had all ready made up the float rig, so, setting

22.02.15 Peanut & The Casterman Handcrafted Stick Floats Vs Shop Bought. I didn't know where to go fishing this morning, first it was the River Croal then I decided on the River Tame. Just as I was about to leave home for the Tame I got a call from The Castsrman. " Where are you off to Peanut " he states in a broad bury accent. I told him I wasn't sure and what were his thoughts on the matter . "Any where will be as bad as the next Peanut. We have had some snow on the hills last night so any extra water coming down will be freezing cold, but at least there is some colour in her, that's one saving grace " he replies. We decided on a secret stretch that we fish rarely, you can fit three people on this run so there was more than enough room. Rigged up and ready to rock and roll........ A great time saver on the bank is to rig up your stick floats  ""Pole Float Style" I arrived first and had pick of the pe

LEDGERING FOR CHUB. A SMASH AND GRAB RAID BY BALD EAGLE. Bald Eagle phoned me today and said he was having an hour after work on an SFA stretch of the River Irwell. I didn't need telling twice so a quick call to Casterman so he could come down and meet my old mate for the first time. Thirty minutes later I finished off what I was doing - float fiddling -, jumped into the " Mighty Megan " and high tailed it off to Radcliffe to meet the Eagle. When I arrived I nearly missed Eagle he was the well camouflaged in his " Ripped to shreds " fishing suit. We said our hellows and settled down, sitting on Eagles coat to keep my arse dry. Eagle mentioned that the last time he fished this peg he had about 15 bites and no hook ups so he was after revenge. He reeled in and put some liquidezed bread in his feeder then russled in a bag and brought out the smelliest cheese paste I have ever smelt. " Jesus Eagle , what have you put in that"  I asked , grimac

River Irwell Chub Fishing - Peanut & Eagal - Like Old Times - 02/01/2015

A BaldEagal - A Chub - And A Little Jigg. I have been fishing and drinking with John Doran AKA Baldeagal on and off for over 30 years, so, we are good mates as well fishing buddies. Today on The Chub Peg. In the Welcome Pub - Whitefield. From Left To Right, Me, Eagal & Horlicks. I love the Irwell even though its bloody hard going. Eagle gets out on it in the winter months sometimes but he hasn' t been on for a while - think he was a bit jealous of the chub I have bagged this season to be honest.....lol, anyway, I received a text off the Eagle saying he was going to have a dangle on the River Irwell for the chub. He had a two hour window to bag one. Not a lot of time but enough to have a good go at one peg.  I was a little late arriving at Eagles peg - I was on a Black Opps session for the pike in the reservoir above the river. "How you diddling Eagal" I shouted as I approached his peg though the bushes. His behatted bald napper tu
