Salford Pete On Tour.....The Yorkshire Diaries - Volume One
I started fishing with my dad when I was 5 years old, I am am now in my 50's, "Salford Pete" is in his late 70's.....so when he asked to come to Yorkshire for a day or two fishing I was over the moon.
😁😁😁😁
We haven't been fishing together for a few years and were both looking forward for a couple of days together.
My old man arrived at my place of work around 15.00. I nipped out, dropped the house key off with him, finished my shift, then met up at the house.
I had already sorted out Salfords gear out and mine is always ready.
"Dad, what we doing? "Are you tired after the drive?"
"Yeah, a bit", "Lets go fishing tomorrow".
"We can have a few pints in Pocklington tonight"
I was also a bit tired after work so we had a few local pints. I introduced my dad to pint of Farmers Blond Ale which he really liked and one I also like when having more than a few.
😉
We had a couple of brandy and cokes back at the house, just glad to be enjoying each others company.
Not suprisingly we had a lie in after a few beers the night before.
We had a brew, a breakfast then we were off the the lake for a float fishing session together.
I got Salford set up and catching
( 12oz roach 1st fish)
on one of our bodied antenna wagglers.
I was in the peg with next door fishing with the same bodied antenna waggler
The waggler/maggot swim was stright in front of me, I also had to two dibber swims down the left and right side.
I was catching on the waggler but it was slow going at first but after an hour I was stringing together good roach and bream to 2lb.
The sky then turnd black, thats when the rain and hailstone hit.
My dad lasted half and hour then went for a brew in the car. The inclement weather lasted for about forty five minutes and without sufficient waterproofs or brolly(left them at home) I was soaked to the bone ..lol..!!!!
Once the weather had settled and the sun came out, like clock work, Salford Pete popped up, nice and dry from his coffee and sandwhich in the the car......I was soaked, but had nearly caught him up in the roach and bream race.
It was time to go on one of the inside lines !!!!!!!
I had watched both the inside lines fizzing for the last thirty minuets, steadily feeding the swims, build the fishes confidence up.
My dibber rig consisted if the following:
1.2g dibber, bulk shot 4 inches away from the hook, 12's supper specialist hook, 6lb line and 5lb pre-stretched hook link were the tools, sweetcorn the bait.
I only had to wait then seconds, the float burried, my J.W. Youngs Bob James Pin screamed out, the Harrison SU doubled over and I was into my first carp.
A fully scalled mirror, not big but great fun.
I was resting one carp in the net, picked up the rod and was stright into another!!!
A double hook up of fin perfect commons.
I even managed a small tench which was good news as I did not know they were present in the lake.
😉👍
😁
I had thirty eight carp plus around 18lb of silvers for around 80lb plus.
My dad was knackered, I was knackered....what a great day.
