Medium Pacemaker - My Best Float To Date In My Opinion

Image
After making Victor Homewood an.........  " Ultra Bling Jumbo Pacemaker " I liked the comments it received on Facebook and decided to make myself one. I shortened the float and reduced the buoyancy by approximately 50% so the weight is 7AAA or 3.5 swan which is exactly what I need for the River Ribble and some parts of the River Irwell where sticks cant cut it when on bread and meat.  It has a yellow, black and white tip, purple and gold whippings with a metallic green  body. Framed between the two green body sections js a jay feather inlay. I hope you all like it. 😊 I may even get my act together and go back to Bridgenoth on the River Severn. A place which still has a special place in my hart. This was where I learnt to trot a float in my very early teens with John Doran, Mike Shaw & Dave Mason amongst others. Until the next time . . .  TTFN . . . . If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats just hit the link. 😊

Secret Cliff Peg - Chublets & An Irwell Dunking !!!!!!!!!!!

Image
I had forgottento do this write up. . . . . . I decided to have another quick hour on the same peg I caught that nice brown trout from  but, unfortunately, it didn't go according to plan. Two chublets and the rivers full population of minnows graced my net. After of arm aching minnow bashing session I packed up and moved to pastures new......... I have been getting out a little more lately so I decided for a change. There is a little known run on the middle Irwell that I have never fished that was going to be crossed of the bucket list today . 😉 I had been warned about the rivers current here  because you have to wade accros it and the river also narrows up next to a sheer cliff face.  I carefully inched over the bedrock to the other side of the river to gain access to the run only known by a few. The journey to the run was not to bad, as I have said, I crossed the river in around two foot of water. It was not as bad as I was expecting it to be to be honest and I c

Disgorger Stick Float Baptism - Salford Pete & The Ginger Assassin Meet and a nice Surprise !

I had a tiny window on Sunday evening for a few hours fishing so I asked my dad if he would like a few hours trottng on the a local river  . . . . With a . . . . . “ Yes I think I will Son “ 😊  as his answer I phone my mate John Deryshire to see if he fancied it to.  John doesn’t need much persuading and of course agreed to come along. I was having dinner at my mum and dads that evening and in the end was running an hour late. We ended up getting to the river about 18.00 which only gave us a two hour session. John text me before I left asking us where we were. I told him we were both running late so he should start without us. As we pulled up the heavens opened up. "  Not the best start to the session " my old man said. " Better than being stuck in the house though . . . . . and we both agreed on that.  We walked past John on our way to our peg. John had had a nightmare start and left some gear at home and had to go back for it so he was just setting up

Roach On A Tinca Stick In December

Image
Best roach net I have had so far on my hand crafted floats. When I got up on Sunday morning I was hardly inspired to try the River Irwell. The river had been at its highest level all year the previous night and was still very high this morning so, I opted for a local still water, but which one ????????? I fancied a bit of roach fishing but its not that easy in Manchester to find a good roach fishery with clean fish with sharp colours, very different frim their washed out commercial cousins !!!!!!!!!! I have found a rough diamond of a water with a good head of stamp roach but to get to them you have to wade through the hordes of 3oz perch. So, with my water chosen I popped into Elton Tackle in Radcliffe for a few bits. A mate if mine was there, ( Craig who, last week had a massive net of roach from a North West river. Some of his roach were over 2lb !!!! ) as well as Phil Greggory ( Shop Manager )) Who kindly offered me a brew while Craig got his biscuits out. Craig looked a

The Sneeky Lifter - The Christaning .......

Image
I have been waiting for this day for a couple of weeks now. It was time to test out my new float. I have christend it........... " The Sneeky Lifter "   Why..... you will find out as you read......  As I was shotting up I put two BB on to lock the float then a no'1, a no'6,  and  no'8 was then added dropper shot. I have started to get to grips with my old local lake and started getting into my feeding routeen. The fish always  come on the drop at first. rudd, and roach mainly. Good flbusy fishing if thats your thing. I put just one no'8 3/4 of the way down the line. It was fast and furious from the off . I didn't get a chance to test the float properly as it just kept flying under. Lots of small rudd and roach obliged. The float was  VERY SENSITIVE............ Somewhere between a Canal Grey & a Stillwater Blue. After an hour the smaller fish start to get pushed out and the larger fish usually move in, generally,

" The Cut " part 1 - Unsworth Angling Club - Rod Race 2015

Unsworth Angling club - The Cut - 1  I have been meening to fish another of my old favourate ponds called     " The Cut "  on the Unsworh Anglers Card and with two sunny days on the bounce I wasn't going to miss out. I wanted to fish the pin with one of my hand crafted Tinca Stick floats. Once you have tried fishing with a pin and your own floats it becomes addictive........trust me. Armed with my Daiwa Connoisseur X Waggler rod, Okuma Aventa Pro Pin and a 2 BB Tinca Stick. I settled down for a little civilized Pin fishing.  My peg for the morning. I used 2 no 1 locking shots and 3 no 8's , 2 half way down the line and one 4" away from the hook. I baited the swim swim with a little brown crumb laced with sweetcorn and a little " Special " ..... lol  ..... and baited up three areas of attack. One swim two rodlenghts out 45°.to my left, the second 3.rodlengths out staight infront of me, the third two rod lengths out 45° to my
