Inserted Sarkanda Wagglers - New Colour Scheme.

Image
Morning all, I have been trying to think of new colour combinations that work together. Green, yellow & red is not a combnation that readly springs to mind but after an hour free styling one evening I came up with this. I wasn't sure at first, nearly stripped them all and started again but after a while the colour scheme grew on me so I finished all four floats. Made with balsa & hardwood, white, red, green & fluorescent orange paints. Threads used were black and gold blush. All floats were finished off with a hand turned brass eye. I have had many good catches over the years on this style of float, mainly roach dace, bream and perch on rivers but it is equally at home on still waters for aditional species such as carp, tench and bream. Until the next time………. TTFN Peanut. Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems

Image
Morning all, I have been promising myself that I would make some more... "Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems"  since the trip to the River Wye with John Derbyshire. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2024/07/river-wye-day-2-01072024.html A couple of weeks ago I managed to get on the lathe and get some bodies turned. These come in at 6.5g and I will be making some larger ones a.s.a.p. These floats proved extremely usefull when shallow water trotting on the faster stretches of the Wye in Herefordshire. The fish (above) were caught holding back hard then letting the float travel down the swim about half the pace of the river on large pieces of lucheon meat I am also going to try these on the River Ribble this winter and should also double up as perch live bait floats TTFN.      Peanut. Mixed Antennae Wagglers

Image
More Antenne Wagglers this week. Two at 5AAA & Two at 5BB. All in 50:50 blue paint with an oak stain plus black and gold whhippings. As stated previoisly I use mine mainly for silver fishing on slow moving rivers but it is equally at home on a lake or reservior fishing for roach tench and bream. A popular and versitile float for many angling situations. TTFN.      Peanut. 5AAA Antennae Wagglers in Charcoal & Slate Grey

Image
Morning all, I fancied making some more "5AAA Antennae Wagglers" as they are my go to float on slow running rivers fishing for roach and bream down the middle wind permitting. I have  just finished four in charcoal & slate grey with black and rose gold whippings. Just as they were complete I recieved a phone call from "The Caster Man" "Alrite mate. Av ya got any of these in semi-loaded roach floats?  "I lost mine in a tree last year". 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😆 If I had known I could have made these semi-loaded for him. Guess I will be busy making some semi-loaded ones in the near future!!!! I don"t do enough of this type of fishing anymore, infact the last time I did was with Caster Man and t was an enjoyable day to.  https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2022/10/a-silver-doller-race-peanut-vs-casterman.html I had around 20lb on that day if memory serves me right Derek? No monster but some quality roach and the odd chub.I could catch roach like that all d

Inverted Alloy Stem Avons, Blue & Stained, 50:50 with fine tips.

Image
Afternoon All, I have thrown myself back into float making after a few weeks off and have just completed multiple sets of . . . . . . "Alloy Stem Avons, Blue & Stained, 50:50 with fine tips". I have made these with balsa, hardwood and alloy for the stems. Made in three different sizes: 5BB - 1.6g. 3AAA - 2.4g, 5AAA - 4.0g. The two larger patterns should cover most of my roach fishing on slower, deeper rivers. The smaller one is around 5BB so will be a general float for lots of river situations.   TTFN . . . . Peanut. Float Box Revamped

Image
I was given a old Middy float box quite a few years ago off  "The Casterman" and have finally got round to kitting it out today. After some cleaning and sanding of the original box it was re-felted and re-sponged to fit some of my Avons, Fluted Avons, Mini-Irwell Sticks & Perch Bobbers. Quiye pleased. 😁 TTFN . . . . Peanut.
