Two Sets Of Black Alloy Stem Avons 5AAA & 5no 4s

 Morning all,

I have been experimenting with some darker paints of late.

Here is the first one in two sizes

Large 5AAA

Small 5 no 4s.

Black avons with alloy stems, black and red whippings, a white collar and a pink/red tip.



I have made these floats previously but not in a black two tone pattern which is quite subtle, camera  can not pick it up.

I have used white signage on both sets of floats for obvious reasons which is something I have not done for a while and feel this version is a big improvement.


These floats were desinged for slow,  running water but both sets will work well with a pole set up.


I am making quiet a few of this style as I know, this coming season, I will be using them for most of my roach and bream fishing.

Lathe Made Pike Bobber - First Effort. . . .😊

This is the first float to come off my new mini lathe. Its an old style " Pike Bobber Float " for live and dead baiting. It is a steep learning curve but, at last, I feel I have something to show all of you. 😊 Cork bodied (turned by myself ) with a birch stem. Jay feather inlay with two  satelliting jungle cock feathers. Fluorescent pink paint and a brass eye. This is how it looked fresh off the lathe . . . . As I said its a steep learning curve for me: 1) Using a lathe.  2) Working with cork. Both had their challenges but a feel I have come out of the other side with a pretty good effort. With a little more practise I feel I can get this pattern looking a much better. This is how it looks now. What do you think ? 😊 Any constructive criticism is always welcome. River Wye Day 2 - 01.07.2024

Morning all. Both John and I where off to a new stretch of the river today. Our chosen destination was the Wye Lee stretch of the River Wye near the bridge pillers. We arrived to find ourselves the first people there so had the pick of the pegs. John already new where he was gonna fish as did I due to short recce the night before. John was in the the first peg next to the pillers. A bit of a boilly, washing machine peg due to all the sub-surface obstructions. It looked very "Barbely" but he may well loose some end tackle. A bonus John had was we had witnessed a barbel capture from there the night previous so at least we new the were in the vacinity. It had been very warm the past week. I had my suspicions the barbel may still be spawning, or at least cleaning off in the fast water. My choice of run was a double croy. A croy is something like a jetty of rocks, man made, in this case, heading out into the river to about 40 feet. A double croy has the same jetty of rocks mirrore...
