Purplepeanut007 PP007 FLOAT MAKING & FISHING ADVENTURES - THE RIVER IRWELL AND BEYOND.

Merry Christmas everyone, ☃️🎅☃️🎅☃️🎅 I have started making tench and bream floats earlier than I usually do. This set of four come in at around 5AAA dressed with green/grey bodies and a black and white segmented stem section to see this all important lift bites. Threads used are black and gold, all finished with a flourescrnt orange sight tips. These are the larges of this style of float I have made at the moment but I do have plans to make some larger ones in the near future. We have had some good results with the smaller Driftbeaters......all the way from Sweden infact !!!!!!  Morning everyone, I am back making some heavy river floats. The Olive Green, 10g Avons With Alloy Stems + Heavy Irwell Sticks With Hardwood Stems pictured below are made from Balsa with alloy and hardwood stems. When I use these avons it will be on the deeper runs with heavier baits on this river and are 19.5 cms in length.   The Heavy Irwell Sticks are for shallow, pacey runs, up to about four feet deep, also for use with all baits on the trent and are 13.5 cms in length. Finished with White, Olive Green, Flourescent orange and red/pink paints. Threads used are black and gold. I used mine this season in conjuction with these olivettes which have been quite useful saving me a few quid on conventional shot when fishing bulk down the line. Until the next time………. TTFN Peanut.  Morning all, I used Stillwater Blues & Canal Greys almost exclusively in my later school years fishing on Pilsworth Bottom Ponds & Unsworth Fisheries. Looking back the freedom we had in the 1980's was great. I used to make a packed lunch, and a flask of coffee just before setting off at 03.00, spend all day on the lake, peddle home, catch the bus to bury to top up my bait and tackle supplies, then repeat. I wish I could do that now!!!!!   May be when retirement arrives!!!!! lol. Anyway, back to the floats .... The next three floats are a bit of an experiment. These are, "Stepped, Inserted Wagglers with Fine Tips" for silver fishing. Weight capacity for these three floats is approximately 4 BB plus or 1.6g ish each.  I have two main uses for these floats.  The first will be standard on the drop fishing in the summer months in ponds and lakes use smaller baits. Afternoon all, Just finished these three inserted wagglers in red, blue and black. I think these are my favourite floats to make as they can be decorated many different ways and used in multiple areas of fishing from ponds to big rivers. These are made with reed and hard wood stems, red, blue, white, paint with fluorescent red and orange tips. Threads used are black gold and blush gold finished with hand turned brass eyes. I will be making a rack of these of these over the Christmas period.....no idea of colour combinations yet 🤣 I will just go with the flow and see what happens.   Morning all, I've finished off some more floats for the Trent 2025  this morning. Alloy Stem Avons In Slate Grey- 8g. Made with balsa bodies, alloy stems The paints used were slate grey & green with white & fluorescent pink tips plus black and gold threads. There are quite a few of us going next year, some I know, some don't so hopefully I will make some new fishing buddies this time.  😊 Big baits are the order of the day for these floats, meat ,paste, pellet, bread, boilie etc. I use these these in-line weights when fishing a bulk down the line. The weights are are easily interchangeable if needed. I have never fished the Trent before, Gunthorpe area so I will have lots to learn and hopefully catch a few fish, friends and memories on the way.  We will probably be making a few day trips before the main event to get a feel for the river.....a good excuse....lol. 😉 We are all looking forward to it very much.  Morning all, I have just completed a pair of  Fluted Slate Grey Avons comimg in at 4.8g which are lighter than I wanted but as they say....its all a learning curve!!! 😊 I do enjoy making these even if they do take more time and effort. There is just something about the way they look that keeps you coming back for more. Made with balsa bodies, alloy stems The paints used were slate grey with white & fluorescent pink tips plus black and gold thread. Hopefully, this pair will be trundelling down the Trent next year after barbel & chub.  These floats will be paired with an Harrison 14foot SU float road and a Youngs, Bob James Centerpin.
