Centerpin Newbie Carp Fishing

 Morning all,

I have been promising a work colleague Dan that I would take him fishing the last few months. Last night we were both able to finish at a similar time and head off to the lake for an dangle in the sunshine.

Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, Dan was unable to start the session with me but promised to meet up around 20.00 at the lake. To save time I told Dan he could use my setup when he arrive to save some time.

I had a quite couple of hours to be honest with just three carp and some silvers and was looking forward to talking Dan through the simplist form of pin fishing, (To me anyway) which is fishing down the side on bigger baits.

Dan has been around a bit the last few years. The last fish he caught was in Cambodia which was a .........He stole the show on that day catching the biggest fish so I new he had some fishing experiance just not on the pin.

Dan eventually rocked up at the venue with a smile on his face and eager to fish. We could not have asked for a more pleaset evening with the sun slowly dropping down over the tree line and the local wild life going about their business. I started talking him through the pin basics, telling him not to go in free spool mode for the fist few sessions, keeping the ratchet on and to use his thumb as a brake if he hooks into a good fish.

I must admit after the first few minutes I was quite impressed with Dans competence.

I think he was under playing his skill set but you can judge for yourself by taking a look at the video below.

It didn't take Dan long to get into the pristine silvers present in this lovely, picturesque lake using corn on a 14's hook, 5lb line and a 5 BB "Purplepeanut Special Lifter Float.".

I have been using this float here a lot, paste fishing, due to the lakes shallow depth and the floats shorter stem.

( I think I will make a pair of even shorter Tincer Sticks for this venue next)

I thought a little coaching was needed, Dan followed it to the letter placing the float further under the over hanging tree.

It only took a minute or two for a reaction. A couple of false bites entailed then a proper one. Dan connected with a swift left to right strike, the pin screach a little telling us both this was a much better stamp of fish......game on!!!!

The rod was old Drennan DRX 15ft float rod....a little bit delicate for this sort of thing I know but you can fell every thump, bump and tail flick when playing the fish, it is like an electric shock up the arm when a fish powers off.

Dan did very well for a pin newbie. With a few close calls and me coaching him he landed the fish with a big smile on his face. I dont know who was more nevous me or Dan..........actually it would have been me as you always like a guest to catch on there first time out with you......anyway Dan was buzzing!!!!!!!!

😊

Dan said "I really like this pin Mike"

"You should mate" I replied.

You wont get any change out of £250 and thats a second hand one !!!!!

Dan looked at me rolled his eyes and said "More money" and we both chuckled knowing he is was well and truely hooked on fishing again now !!!!!

I will have to take him on a river next.....THAT WILL BE FUN...lol

🙄

Dans Cambodian catch.

Anyone know what it is?

Until the next time....
