50:50 Black Alloy Stem 3g Avons

Image
Hi all, I have been meaning to make some black avons for a while but just never git round to it. These are heavier that the first coming in at approximately 3g All have an alloy stem, balsa body and a hardwood tip, the body is 50:50 black/stain with white a white collar and fluorecent pink tips. Threads are black and crimson. These are to be used on deeper rivers using bulk shot and some droppers mainly for roach but bream and chub may put an appearance in at some point. Below is a picture of the last time I had a session on the river in question fishing a bodied waggler at dustance. If I combine the two methods, on the right day, I estimate I could produce 40 lb in about 4 hours. Roll on the new season. PS: Below is a size comparision picture of the two alloy stem float patterns I have recently made. Summer Camo.Avons-5BB--New Paint Job

Image
Hi all, I had a few spare bodies staring at me in my blank box over the last few months. In December I finally had a few hours spare to try out a new paint job. (New to me anyway) A few test cards later and some frustrated attempts I decided on three colours to play with, Eath Brown, Hunter Green & Canary Yellow plus Standard White and Fluorescent Orange, all of which I made myself. I kept the threads simple using only two, Yellow/gold and black. There are eight of these floats in total, all in balsa and with hardwood stems. Here is a short video of one float which shows it in great detail. I was expecting to ruin a few floats but luckily I didn't, also, I was not sure about the paint job initially as I usually like things crisp and precise which is the opposite of what I was trying to achieve with these floats, but, for a first attempt, I am rather please with the results. The Avons below have the same diameter balsa body, but, are heavier than the previous Alloy Stem Avons a...

Roach Avons With Alloy Stems

Image
Hi all, I have been working on some new "Roach Avons With Alloy Stems"  for a few weeks now and finally finished them last night. There are twelve floats in total, all taking appromimately 1.0 gm or 5 no 4s Made mainly for finicky feeding roach on slow to medium pace rivers at close range, up to two rod lengths out in the right conditions.  All these floats have balsa bodies, alloy stems and neutral densisty hardwood tips. I have mae a similar float previously. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2019/09/stained-slimline-roach-avons.html I found the float in the attached link great but the tip was a little too long and fragile so altered the design slightly to make them more robust. Hunter Green, Earth Brown, Slate Grey and Crimson Red where the colours of choice for this group of floats. All were finished with fluorescent orange tips and black / gold thread. I will be trying them out in the next week or two, I am just wainting for the fish to settle once they get used ...
