Roach Avons With Alloy Stems

Image
Hi all, I have been working on some new "Roach Avons With Alloy Stems"  for a few weeks now and finally finished them last night. There are twelve floats in total, all taking appromimately 1.0 gm or 5 no 4s Made mainly for finicky feeding roach on slow to medium pace rivers at close range, up to two rod lengths out in the right conditions.  All these floats have balsa bodies, alloy stems and neutral densisty hardwood tips. I have mae a similar float previously. https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2019/09/stained-slimline-roach-avons.html I found the float in the attached link great but the tip was a little too long and fragile so altered the design slightly to make them more robust. Hunter Green, Earth Brown, Slate Grey and Crimson Red where the colours of choice for this group of floats. All were finished with fluorescent orange tips and black / gold thread. I will be trying them out in the next week or two, I am just wainting for the fish to settle once they get used to t

Slate Grey, Multi-Segmented Antennae Bodied Wagglers

Image
Afternoon all, Due to a wash out today there will be no fishing for me......but evey cloud has a silver lining as it enabled me to finish the two wagglers below. These are a slight variation on the  "Bodied Antennae Wagglers" I have previously made. There is no change in the build. 5AAA balsa, hardwood, brass eyes and fluorescent paints, slate grey bodied plus various thread colours. The difference between the two floats is the segment pattern near the tip of the float. I have seen first hand how the roach feed/ bite, at distance, on the slow flowing, deep river these floats were designed for and belive the changes suggested will improve performance. After a discussion with a fellow silver fish angler and friend we dicided to split the white and fluorescent yellow segments with another black band of thread, effectively splitting the latter to segments in half, hopefully to enable improved bite detection from the shy biting roach. Any way, enough bable....here are a pair of t

River Ribble Shallow Water StickFloat Trial.

Image
Hi all,  I have been meaning to get on the banks with Craig Lutner for ages so when he asked for a specific loaded stick float for the shallow runs on the middle River Ribble I seized the oppotunity. The trip resutled in me popping my River Ribble Grayling cherry, four in fact. Craig had a lovely brace of chub one after the other plus multiple dace. Im happy with the floats performance so I will be getting some more turned today. Link to float blog below: https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2022/09/loaded-shallow-water-stick-floats-with.html No barbel this time .....but gives us an excuse to get out together once again. ☺ Can anyone ID this fish for me please? I have not fished the Ribble for while but I will be on the Lower Ribble this winter for silvers. Tight lines everyone. Loaded Shallow Water Stick Floats - With Craig Lutener

Image
The floats below are for Craig Lutener, a mate of mine from Elton Tackle In Radcliffe. Two for him, three for me. He has asked me to make some Almost, Fully Loaded Shallow Water Stick Floats for fishing with partical baits/maggots, and casters. Not identical but slightly different in sizes and weights. We will be after two species with these floats, grayling and barbel. First will be grayling I think.....it will all depend on river levels and clarity but should happen in the next couple of weeks. Various Hardwood Stemmed Avons

Image
Hi all, I decided to go right back to basics with this set of floats. Believe it or not the avon is a float I hardly ever use, leaning towards stick float fishing instead. Below are several different colours of my  "Hardwood Stemmed Avon Floats" There is always something attractive about simplicity if you can get it right and hopefully, with this batch I have done just that. I have made the first four of these floats in different colours as I have not settled for a standard colour yet but I am leaning towards both the light grey and  mustard. All the floats below have dark, harwood stems, orange fluorescent tips, black whippings and a painted, coloured body. All are approximately 4AAA/ 3.2 gram.  TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1       Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!  http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/
