Home Made Roving Box By "The Casterman"

Hi all,

I have been after a light roving box for quite some time now but could never decide on which one to buy........plus they are nearly £200

After finishing some ........

Loaded Antenne Bodied Wagglers for my mate 

"The Casterman" 

he said.......

" Don't buy one lad". 

"I have just what you need here.....the bits anyway". 

"I've been meaning to make one out of all the bits I have accumlated over the years"......Lol.

I have been using an old Shakespeare Box which is very light but a little cumbersum to carry and I do miss my Octoplus type gadgets, although I will need some 25mm fittings. I was over the moon we he said he could sort me out with one.

PM me If anyone has accessores for 25mm square legs. I will happily meet up and swap for an avon float hand made by myself.

It has taken a while to finish it as we have both been very busy of late.

From start to finish....

If I want to go super light I can just use the frame and a foam seat
If I want to go light there is the proper cushion seat.
Here is the full seat, tray & draws.
I just need some attachments for 25mm square legs now. 😁

It will serve me well during the week on my Yorkshire Dewent adventures and will be a godsend on some of the longer treks on more local rivers.

PS: To recipricate this kind act I am turning Derek a new chair leg for a sentimental piece of furniture that has recently been damaged. 

I have only turned the wood round so far though......I need to get my act together!!!

Lathe Made Pike Bobber - First Effort. . . .😊

This is the first float to come off my new mini lathe. Its an old style " Pike Bobber Float " for live and dead baiting. It is a steep learning curve but, at last, I feel I have something to show all of you. 😊 Cork bodied (turned by myself ) with a birch stem. Jay feather inlay with two  satelliting jungle cock feathers. Fluorescent pink paint and a brass eye. This is how it looked fresh off the lathe . . . . As I said its a steep learning curve for me: 1) Using a lathe.  2) Working with cork. Both had their challenges but a feel I have come out of the other side with a pretty good effort. With a little more practise I feel I can get this pattern looking a much better. This is how it looks now. What do you think ? 😊 Any constructive criticism is always welcome. River Wye Day 2 - 01.07.2024

Morning all. Both John and I where off to a new stretch of the river today. Our chosen destination was the Wye Lee stretch of the River Wye near the bridge pillers. We arrived to find ourselves the first people there so had the pick of the pegs. John already new where he was gonna fish as did I due to short recce the night before. John was in the the first peg next to the pillers. A bit of a boilly, washing machine peg due to all the sub-surface obstructions. It looked very "Barbely" but he may well loose some end tackle. A bonus John had was we had witnessed a barbel capture from there the night previous so at least we new the were in the vacinity. It had been very warm the past week. I had my suspicions the barbel may still be spawning, or at least cleaning off in the fast water. My choice of run was a double croy. A croy is something like a jetty of rocks, man made, in this case, heading out into the river to about 40 feet. A double croy has the same jetty of rocks mirrore...
