Grayling Fishing On Shallow Water Stick Floats

Trying out my new
Shallow Water Stick Floats
has been over due.
I fancied catching a few grayling so sorted out a few shallow rigs, got my maggots and bread prepared, loaded up the car and hit the road.
Now.......I have not had much luck wader wise on this river......
The first time I fell in head first, tripping over an un-seen submerged boulder !!!
The second time I discovered I had a hole in my waders and one leg was soaked all day long.
This time I had new waders on but it didn't stop me getting a freezing cold wet leg in the first five minutes !!!!!!
Note to self......
DON'T BUY CHEAP WADERS !!!!!

As I stood mid river I should see the tell tale ripples and bubbles of trout and grayling taking flies from the surface, so, plenty of fish in the swim I thought.
I was fishing with an 8 no 4s shallow water stick float with a fluorescent red tip, easily visible under the overhanging sycamore trees.
It took around fifteen minutes for my first fish, a lovely female graying of around 10 ounces
FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!
Target fish a captured straight away.
😁
Next was a surprise young chub, not to common in this pool

Three wild brown trout followed the young chub.
All lovely looking fish

but do have a tendency to tail walk and mess up your swim when grayling fishing.

I left this pool after the trouts acrobatics and dropped in a few other runs taking the odd fish including this fish of about 10 & 12 ounces.

They ladies were not showing properly today but not to worry!!!!!!
I had a swim I drop into for some big chub every now and then.
I switched rigs, using an older shallow water stick and a 14s specialist hook.
Liquidised bread was introduced along with lashings of hemp and left the swim to settle, hopefully enticing some lumps out of the overhanging willows on the far side of the river.
It was starting to get dark so I had about twenty minutes to winkle out a big fish.
With a large piece of bread on my hook I carefully edged the float down stream just past the tree roots. Half way down the swim the stick shot under, the acolyte wrapped round and I new a big old chevin was on.
It didn't move at first but the chub must of realised she was hooked and powered off for the willow roots.
I was sooooo glad I upped my tackle specifications . This big old fish would have snapped me for sure !!!!
Once I turned here away from the the roots a carefully play in the shallows ensued
And without further a do she was in the net.
😁
Bang in 4 lb this chub was the icing on the cake of a very enjoyable day on the river.
I couldn't resist one more cast and would you believe it ......I was in again straight away !!!!!!!!!!!!
It was really getting dark now, a quick picture and I was off wadding upstream half a mile to exit the river with a wader full of freezing water !!!!!
I just about made it before it got dangerous.
I obviously don't advise wadding upstream in the dark....lol
 !!!!!!!

A great day testing the new
" Shallow Water Stick Floats "
I will be on the lathe tomorrow turning some more.
