Chasing The Ladies With Adam Mack.

Well. . . . . . . . .
For the last month or two I have seemed to have lost my fishing mojo for one reason or another.
A few phone calls from my old chum
" The Casterman "
had fallen on deaf ears . . . .
I was just not feeling it at the moment !!!!!!!!!!
I had put a comment on Facebook about grayling on some site or another . . . .
I forget the exact one when my phone pinged and a message from Adam Mack anounced itself in my inbox !!!!!
" Fancy taking your pin for a spin " ?  . . . . . . . .
" I know where the Ladies are ".
The message was a little cryptic but I new ķexactly what he meant and a little smile appeared on my face as I read it.
😁
I had only recently caught my first grayling or  " Lady Of The Stream "
so another session for these wonderful looking fish got my attention.
A few phone calls later Adam and myself had sorted a time date out to reclaim my fishing mojo.
We met up, got some gear from the local tackle shop in Middleton and then high tailed it down the motorway to our destination.
We arrived without incident and tackled up near the car.
A quick nosey over the bridge and Adam said laughing  . . . . .
" I told you mate, its grayling soup here '
I looked down into the meandering clear water below us and sure enough it was true.
I was in grayling heaven.
There were dozens of them chilling in the late summer sunlight, darting left and right taking flies and nymphs.
We climbed down the banking and where fishing within minutes.
I was using a 2 number 4s micro stick float
(Not one of mine I must confess )
as the flow was quite slow on this swim but the fish were present. . . . . and in high numbers.
At the end of the run my little stick shot under and I was into a fish.
" Is it a grayling Mike ? " shouted Adam from further down stream.
" It sure is mate. Not a bad one. . . . . about five ounces at a guess "
After a few more of the same size Adam shouts to me. . . . .
" Stop messing with the tiddlers and come with me matey "
I waded to where he was and let the disturbance I created settle down a little.
Adam said " Just Watch "
and trickled half a dozen grubs into the swim right next to his waders.
Our vision was fixed in the maggots slowly descend into the clear sunlight waters of the river.
Suddenly from out of know where dozens of shapes ghosted into the swim as if by magic as grayling showed themselves and started to snaffling our free offerings.
They were good fish to. . . . .
up to a pound or more
Adam was the first to wet a line in the swim and within seconds the tiny stick float shot under and he was into a lady of around ten ounces.
My turn next.
Again within seconds I was into a grayling, slightly smaller this time eight ounces I guessed at.
I had a feeling this was going to be one of these red letter days you will always remember !!!!!!
How right I was !!!!!!!!!
😉
Trot after trot we caught fish all over six ounces and up to a 12 ounces
You could either watch your maggot or watch your float.
The fish had no fear of us !!!!!!!
and double hook ups were common place.
The hardest part was keeping our fish away from each other to prevent tangling.
" This is is fantastic fishing Adam.
Thank you so much for inviting me to your grayling shangri la"
I said.
" No problem Mike.
Lets leave this shoal be now and go and find the big girls "
he said with a cheeky grin.
" Oh my god. . . . . . they grow bigger "
I have had them up to two pounds, follow me and I will show you the run ".
We waded down the river to a fast riffle that wasn't much to look at.
That soon changed. !!!!!!!
First run down I was into a lady.
Adam didn't have a fish for the first few trots but made up for it with his next fish.
" Woooohoooo. . . . . . .
This is a good one mike ".
His fish put up a good scrap in the fast shallow water and with a little difficulty bagged the biggest fish of the session so far.
" Yeeeeeaaa man this is what we came for ".
Adam was buzzing now.
We had loads of fish from this run all about ten ounces.
Onto they next run next which was Adams favourite
and I must confess
was mine to.
😁
As we waded out from the shaded area into the bright sunshine the next run presented itself. This one was different from the other riffles. A slower, deeper section but with some pace to accommodated our oxygen loving quarry.
You could see a deeper hole in the river bed where the ladies would be holding.
" what do you think of this rum Mike " ?
I love it !!!!!!!!!!
We just introduced some grubs and waited for grayling to arrive.
Within minutes they were there. . . . ..
along with groups of greedy brown trout.
We started fishing again and it was one a chuck !!!!!!!!
All the fish weighed around eight ounces plus lots of smaller brownies.
I even managed to make a quick video.
😊
Fifteen minutes later Adam stopped fishing and just watched. . . .
" Wooooooooow "
Mike, Mike, look at my feet,  look at my feet. . . . look at the size of those
😮
At his heals where a quartet of ladies.....all over two pound.
Adams enthusiasm is infectious and I could feel the excitement building inside me.
For the next twenty minutes we tried every trick in the book for these fish and didn't get a nibble.
It was just wonderful to see such lovely fish doing what they do.
It was brilliant
😍

After this run we climbed out and headed back to the car park.
My waders were leaking in water all day through a slit in the rubber near my toe and we were laughing at the water spurting out of it every time I out my foot down.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We arrived back at the car and Adam pipes up
" Are you ready for round two Cootesie " !!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus
 !!!!!!!!
I was knackered
!!!!!!!!
but I didn't dare missing out on any lady action so with Adam guiding we headed off for the next section.
Again fishing shallow fast runs we were catching fish after fish after fish
This one below was the best of them from the last pool of the day.
Her weight was guessed a a pound and a quarter and by far the biggest fish of the day.
We had conservatively estimated that we had caught well over fifty fish each easily.
What a day !!!!!!!!!
A fantastic days fishing Adam.
One that I will remember for a long, long time to come.
I owe you a big one.

I well and truly have the grayling bug now.
