Manchester Perch Hunt PART 1 - A New Bobber.

Image
It has been decades since I have been on a proper perch hunt and since I have been making a lot of bobbers lately I thought I would have a bash once more. 😊 I have also been concentrating on the simple things with regards to my float making such as tidying up my lines. There is always room for improvement and that has been my mission for some time now. The float below made me smile whilst making it. Everything went to plan for a change. No sidewinders or surprises. It went like clock work from start to finish. Wish they could all be like that. . . . Lol 🤣 " It is just another of your large bobbers " . . . . I here you say........which is true but it is probably the sharpest and neatest bobber I have made. Hopefully you will see what I mean when you observe the close up photographs. This will be the live bait float on the perch hunt. Luckily a friend of mine Neil Johnson has offered to take me out perching when I am fit and well again

Inserted wagglers with Feather Inlays

Image
Inseted Wagglers are great around floats. Most anglers will have used these for years in many different guises Great on still waters or rivers. I will always have a selection of these in my bag. These floats can be used for most situations from pellet and maggot fishing on commercial fisheries to big river fishing I use mine mainly on rivers in the summer fishing up in the water, on the drop with maggots, casters and hemp to tempt silver fish such as roach, dace and chub. The set below has been made in specific sizes and colours for various situations. I hope you like them. A day out on Inserted Wagglers with The Casterman. The full blog. ( an old one ) http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/peanut-vs-casterman-silver-dolla-race.html?m=1 A modest 10 lb catch of river roach I don't mine TOO much when I get schooled off " The Casterman " 😕 16 lb  of roach Never mined the lucky result Derek. The floats wo

Retro Procupine Quills For Summer Tenching

Image
I have been meaning to make some of these floats for a VERY long time. The Porcupine Quill is another pattern that reminds me very much of those long summer days spent a the local lodge with your mates bread fishing for tench and Crucian Carp. I used to use them on the ICI pond to catch tench to 3 lb and Crucian Carp to 1.5 lb on Carvansons lodge in the early 1980's both of which are still on the Unsworth Anglers card. The pair below are replicas of floats passed down to me from my dad who had them handed down to him from my grandad. I believe my grandad may have made them himself, or, had them made for him as I have never seen their like before or since. I remember " Borrowing " 😉 these from my dads float wallet many times  although he did not know it at the time...... Lol I was not allowed to use them in my youth and quite rightly so incase I lost one. To use them I had to sneak them into my wicker basket the night before I went fishing.

A Date With Some Yorkshire Ladies. 😉

Image
To day was the day that myself and Salford Pete were heading off over to the wrong side of the hills, up the M67 and over to Yorkshire. Our target for the day were  Yorkshire Ladies . . . .  Ladies if the stream that is . . . . .  Otherwise known as. . . . . GRAYLING !!!!!!!! Being born and bred Mancunians grayling are a foreign species to us and, unfortunately neither of us have bagged one on our travels.  ( Well. . . . . I have had one from Lymm Vale but I don't count still water grayling ) We were meeting a friend of mine and a new member of my float making group on face book, Jordan O'Halloran, a local Yorkshire lad with bags of knowledge regarding ladies. 😉😉😉😉😉😉 ( Dont tell the Mrs.... 🤣 ) We met around 08.00 on the River Don. Unfortunately, the river was high, coloured and pushing through at a fair old rate of knots. Not the best grayling conditions but this trip was planned months ago so we all decided to give it a go.
