Mini-Irwell Sticks

Image
Hi all, Below are a pair of..... Mini-Irwell Sticks, one grey, one green. I love these floats for fishing small rivers and streams where three feet is a good depth. The floats below do not take a lot of shot, approximately 4 no 4s and are at their best fished shirt button style in up to four feet of water. Some captures on Irwell Sticks. TTFN      Peanut. Irwell Sticks in Hunter Green with a Feather Inlay.

Image
I promissed Dion I would make him a quartet of ...... Hunter Green Irwell Sticks...... Slightly different sizes as requested, two with feather inlays and two signed with his name on. The four stick floats are made with balsa, an alloy stem, black/ gold whippings, red/pink fluorescent tips and a game feather. Sorry I couldn't get them to you before the end of the season pal but at least you have something to look forward to at the begining of the new season. 😁 Dion will be using these mainly on the Bollin but also the middle Mersey. I personally love using these when wadding fishing the just off the rod tip for maximum control. Designed for shallow fishing on faster runs these floats should serve him well next season and I am fully expecting some fish and float caputures of him in June. The pressure is on Dion.....LOL 😆😆😆😆😆😆 May be we can orgainise a session together soon on the Old River or later on the Bollin or the Mersey Dion? TTFN      Peanut. Please subscribe if you wo

Loaded Shallow Water Stick Floats - With Craig Lutener

Image
The floats below are for Craig Lutener, a mate of mine from Elton Tackle In Radcliffe. Two for him, three for me. He has asked me to make some Almost, Fully Loaded Shallow Water Stick Floats for fishing with partical baits/maggots, and casters. Not identical but slightly different in sizes and weights. We will be after two species with these floats, grayling and barbel. First will be grayling I think.....it will all depend on river levels and clarity but should happen in the next couple of weeks. Straight Hardwood Stemmed Irwell Stick

Image
Hi everyone, Today I have just finished another  "Irwell Stick Float" Finished in grey and white paint, black thread and a fluorescent red/ pink tip. This is very simple, timeless, traditional style that is really starting to appeal to me. Made with a straight, walnut stem this is lighter & thinner than the previous Flared Hardwood Stemmed Floats I made a few weeks ago. Another one to try on the Irwell, Ribble and may be other rivers come the 16th....... Starting to get excited !!!!! New, Flared, Hardwood Stemmed Stick Floats

Image
Hi all. For a while now I have wanted to make some.....  "Flared Hardwood Stemmed Stick Floats" similar to the lignum stemmed sticks I used in my youth on the River Severn at Hampton Loade. The shorter stem float is a   Stepped, Irwel Stick   for shallow spate rivers. The longer stem float is a  Standard Stepped, Stick   for general use. Both these floats are finished with black and burgundy whippings, with a battleship grey body, fluorescent orange tip and of course the hardwood stems which give these foats there balance. I have to admit I am excited about using one of these floats especially the sorter Irwell Stick and will be putting them through there paces in the coming weeks on some northern rivers including the Ribble, Irwell, Calder etc. (May be some Yorkshire Rivers to.😉) PS:  Acquiring the right sized hardwood has  proved to be a bit of a challenge to be      honest so if anyone can help please pm me. New Porcupine Quill Stick Floats

Image
I have managed to get another pair of floats finished before the end of the year.😉 Below are a pair of .... "Porcupine Quill Stick Floats Simple floats made as I said from porcupine quill and an aluminium stem. Fluorescent orange / white paint, with black, blue and burgundy whippings with a 2020 signature to finish off the floats. I tried to make these floats as bomb proof as possible for roach fishing on the drop using caster, maggot or hemp in a good depth of water as that is how my mate likes to fish. 😊 I wanted to make one of these for myself and one for my friend and motivator.... " The Casteman" You have been no end of help and motivation in the past few years pal. PS: Congratulations on the fish of the year win from Salford Friendly Anglers, well deserved mate.
