New Wooden Line Winders For Medium to Large River Floats

Image
Morning all, I have just finished twenty... Wooden Line Winders For Medium to Large River Floats. I got sick of the plastic ones cracking/ breaking so decided to make some of my own. Not as artistic as making a float but very practical/ usefull. I make some fancy ones next year if I get time. 😁 These are quite deep on one side to fit larger bodied avons and stick floats as the middle peg is set deeper to accommodate a larger body size. All the winders below are made of both soft and hardwoods, stained , lacquer finished then signed. Here is how the winders look with some of my largest river floats on. 3AAA Avon 3 Swan Barbel Stick 2 Swan Cocobolo Harwood Stemed Heavy Stick Float. These should stand me in good stead for the coming winter but have started some more just incase as I know Salford Pete will want some...lol. Straight Sarkanda River Wagglers

Image
Hi all, I have made a pair of river wagglers (Elongated sight tips)  while I had a little time on my hands. I don't often use these myself but when I I needed one this summer of course, the float box was empty ....lol. Threads used were black, violet, metallic golden blush, crimson, and black,  I needed one for fishing the Irwell three quarters of the way across the river using big pieces of bread after the bream and guess what?.....I didn't have any in my tube hence the pair you see below. I will also be making a few more before Christmas in various colours. Also,  I may add a very small band of black to the later additikns to help with indication when fishing in changing light conditions. New Glow In The Dark Double Ended Pike Pencil

Image
Hi all, I haven't made any pike floats in a very long time. So was pleased when I was asked to create a new slider based on a float I set asided many years ago. The original float the slider is based on is a double ended, reversible pike pencil with brass eyes which I have just completed. The new pike slider float is a straight through float designed to be fished flat, at depth and made from balsa. These floats are also reversible so each colour give the user options in different light conditions. The slider floats are still under construction but I have just completed the original double ended, eyed pencil style float and is pictured below. Paints used are glow in the dark yellow and fluorescent pink plus a brass eye. Only black thread was used in the construction of this version. Slate Grey, Multi-Segmented Antennae Bodied Wagglers

Image
Afternoon all, Due to a wash out today there will be no fishing for me......but evey cloud has a silver lining as it enabled me to finish the two wagglers below. These are a slight variation on the  "Bodied Antennae Wagglers" I have previously made. There is no change in the build. 5AAA balsa, hardwood, brass eyes and fluorescent paints, slate grey bodied plus various thread colours. The difference between the two floats is the segment pattern near the tip of the float. I have seen first hand how the roach feed/ bite, at distance, on the slow flowing, deep river these floats were designed for and belive the changes suggested will improve performance. After a discussion with a fellow silver fish angler and friend we dicided to split the white and fluorescent yellow segments with another black band of thread, effectively splitting the latter to segments in half, hopefully to enable improved bite detection from the shy biting roach. Any way, enough bable....here are a pair of t
