A Balsa For " Boyneie "

Image
I have had time to play on my lathe again and this is the first offering. My second small Balsa ( This one is for Andrew Boyne ) finished with black, purple and golden whippings. Egg shell blue, white and glow in the dark yellow are the paints.  It also has a treble feather inlay of jay and jungle cock feathers.  Finished off with a hand turned brass eye. Lets hope it will be accompanied with some nice Northern Barbel Mr Boyne 😉 Until the next time . . . . . Pretty Crucians On A Sneaky Lifter

Image
John Derbyshire has been promising to take me on one of his local pits for a bit of Crucian Carp fishing for some time now. So we organised to meet on Bank Holiday Monday. When I arose from my pit in the morning I gave John a call but . . . . . . no answer !!!!!!!!!! I didn't panic . . . . .as his phone went straight to voice mail so I new his phone had ran out of juice. My phone started  to buzz about a mile from our rendezvous point I pulled the car over and grabbed my phone. . . . . It was John. " I'm so sorry mate. My phone has ran out of juice so I over slept. I can be there  in 20 minutes " !!!!!!! " Hahaha . . . . No worries John. Me and my old man will wait for you " True to his word 20 minutes later Johns van comes around the corner. " Alright boys came a jovial greeting from John" A quick visit to the tackle shop and we were on our way to the pit. John had " Bigged Up " these small pits and couldn't

Sight Bob Wagglers - In Metallic Blue

Image
I have only ever made two sight bob wagglers before so I am by no means an expert with this patten. The paint work is metallic, pearlescent blue with the top of the stem in plain white finished with a fluorescent day glow colour apart from the black float. All whippings are in black and purple and take approximately 5 SSG ( 8 g ) These should do the business John Derbyshire !!!!!! The ones pictured are the basic models.  I will be making them with all the whistles and bells  ( Feather, metallic whippings and a futher pearlescent finish ). 😉 I now have a few of these and will be testing them on a large reservoir in Bolton along with my perch bobbers I will be fishing over depth with chopped worm and caster with some shot on the lake bed to combat the tow.  The wagglers will be paired up with " The Creature Reacher "  and hopefully I or John will have a few slabs to show you. 😉 Until the next time . . . . . Two Tone Glow In The Dark Tinca Sticks

Image
As you know I really like the two different coloured bands on my Tinca Sticks. I feel they really aid me in bite detection. With this in mind I have been experimenting with other glow in the dark paints. Most of which have been quite poor. The exception to the rule is shown in the picture below. The blue glow in the dark paint has a very nice contrast to the yellow. All though not the best day glow and aesthetically pleasing colour ( to me ) the night glow contrast is what I have been searching for. I looked at the pair above under a black out blanket I acquired for testing the glow in the dark floats. When my head emerged from the blankets I had a big grin on my face and proceeded to get "Salford Petes " head under the blanket do he could inspect my new offering . . . . " Spot on that son " said my old man. . . . .  We were very pleased with the outcome as a few failed attempts using other colours have put us both off the idea

Sneaky Lifter - A New Colour Combination.

Image
I don't know why but I have never used the yellow / green colour combination on any of my floats. So, with that in mind the two obvious floats to benefit from these colours were the........ " Sneaky Lifter " and the " Tinca Stick " because of the dual colour bands they both have. The first pattern I have tried this colour combo is is a long  " Sneaky Lifter ". Made with a glow in the dark yellow tip, a green band, a jay feather inlay with black purple and gold whippings. I think a few other float makers have used this paint combination before but it is a first for me and I am more than happy with the out come. Until the next time . . . . . Sneaky Lifter - The Darth Maul Effect

Image
As per the last float I a sticking with the black tipped theme. This time I have been paying around with a small " Sneaky Lifter " Trying to infuse the Star Wars . . . . " Darth Maul " efect I created on a Pace Maker a few weeks ago. http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/a-star-wars-float-bit-of-fun-challange.html?m=1 This  " Sneaky Lifter "  has a black tip and a fluorescent pink band. Additional thin black bands where added to register any slight lifts or bobs, decorative gold downward spirals, metallic cerise and purple bands to finish the whipping. To complete I have inlayed a Lady Amhurst feather as this, to me, fits nicely with the " Darth Maul " theme. 😊 Without flash With flash It is much harder for me working on smaller floats so I am very proud of this little float and I have acheived what I wanted regarding its appearance. Now I just have to put some fish on the blog usi
