Unsworth Angling club - The Cut - 1  I have been meening to fish another of my old favourate ponds called     " The Cut "  on the Unsworh Anglers Card and with two sunny days on the bounce I wasn't going to miss out. I wanted to fish the pin with one of my hand crafted Tinca Stick floats. Once you have tried fishing with a pin and your own floats it becomes addictive........trust me. Armed with my Daiwa Connoisseur X Waggler rod, Okuma Aventa Pro Pin and a 2 BB Tinca Stick. I settled down for a little civilized Pin fishing.  My peg for the morning. I used 2 no 1 locking shots and 3 no 8's , 2 half way down the line and one 4" away from the hook. I baited the swim swim with a little brown crumb laced with sweetcorn and a little " Special " ..... lol  ..... and baited up three areas of attack. One swim two rodlenghts out 45°.to my left, the second 3.rodlengths out staight infront of me, the third two rod lengths out 45° to my

2015 Rod Race - Tench and Crucian Points.

Hi all, First of all let me apologise for the lack of posts. I have been extremely busy with work and family life so fishing and the blog have taken a step backwards....unfortunately. I currently have a bee in my bonette regarding a small mill pond run by my local club. I grew up fishing here and even though a 16 meter pole will no doubt reach the other side I still love the place.  Below is the little track leading to the lodge. This is the little gem I like to play in. My Okuma centerpin and my new Tinca Stick floats where my chosen weapons of the day and I was hoping to catch a tench or , if very lucky,  a Crucian Carp. Crucians are becoming quite rare due to hybridisation with Brown Gold Fish and other ornimentals so to have crucians on my door step is a real bonous. My Tinca Sticks My session went off without a hitch fishing the pin 2 rodlenths out. I was fishing maggot out straight infront of me and corn down the side near the lilly bed

Unsworth Anglers - Silver Fishing On The Pole.

Pole Rig Spring Clean - An Intimate Reunion - Unsworth Anglers. Had a few days holiday to take before the end of April so I thought I would have a drop on my new / old club waters Unsworth Anglers. I had been a member of this club for over 20 years back in the day and it has just been re- stocked with f1's and tench on one of the ponds. I hand a 2.5 hour window to fish so I opted to fish the tiny pond called Carvansons, named after the fragrance factory it sits behind. (Funny, in my capacity as an Aerosol Development Technologist I recieve samples from this company on a regular basis - small world ay )  This was a favourate destination when I was a wee niper. Salford Pete would announce that we would be going fishing in the morning - usually a Sunday - and I would litrally be awake all night with excitment. A good day in those days was 5 fish a piece, usually perch roach and gudgeon in that order. If you were lucky and I mean really luck you would catch a Crucian Carp

River Irwell Barbel - Another Dream Realised

12.03.15 River Irwell Barbel On The Centerpin & My Own Floats. Today was the last day of my river fishing season. I was planning on going to the river Tame but I got up late and the Traffic was really bad so I headed  off  to the Irwell to christen my Okuma Aventa VT 1002 Centerpin Reel.  instead. My first peg looked good but unfortunately no bites were forth coming and after two hours I called it a day. It was interesting though because Mick Doddy - an LBA member - came down for a while to get some idea of how to use a centerpin. Why he chose to watched me on the pin I will never know as I am shite.......pmsl. I gave Mick a stick float as he’s is going to supply me with some elder pith for float making. He also gave me some new lures to try.....Cheers Mick. My first swim drew a blank. I was off to a new peg when Mick left further upstream. My new peg was a shallow fast run, ideal for the Irwell sticks. On my fourth trot down" Boooooosh "
