New Stained Stick Float (Dreaming of the rivers already !!!!)

Image
I am just putting the finishing touches on a new stick float. To be honest I broke the tip off a Slimline Avon float but instead of discarding it I decided to see what I could make of what was left. The stick float below is the answer and I quite like it.  😁😁😁😁😁 Stained with dark oak, this float is made if balsa and aluminium.  Its shape and size lends itself to a variaty of baits in medium to fast water such as maggots, casters, bread and pellet. When allowed out of isolation this will be tried on a known peg on the ribble that I have had my eye on for some time but have been unable to get there for one reason or another. (Mr Boyne, you know of where I speak) The swim is a well known feeder leg for barbel and chub but as far as I know un-tried on the float. Well, i tried it once but quickly realised I was under - gunned float wise, although I did catch but just the one. 😉 TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my h

Tinca Sticks - A Blast From The Past !!!!

Here are some more floats I haven't made in an age  These three " Tinca Sticks " More traditional then my current offerings these are designed for tench fishing, usually at close quarters but these three are much longer so they can be used for general fishing. Made from reed & cane with red/green tips,  black and white segments, plus black gold and violet whipping. I cut my float making teeth in this style of float  and enjoyed making these so much I made another two, slightly different from these but you will have to wait to them 😉 Lets.hope these three catch plenty of fish. Irwell Sticks For The Rivers Don & Douglas.

Image
Busy with these at the moment . . . . but I love making them. My favourite float . . .  " The Irwell.Stick " The  " Irwell Stick "  was designed for fishing shallow river runs but is also been used as a general float for most species. John Derbyshire even uses them on the pole for margin fishing. They are at their best fishing 2 - 4 feet deep through slightly pacey run on a river or some where a standard sized alloy stick would struggle due to the extra pace and shallower water. I personally performed quite well using these last summer. 😉 The above caught on halibut pellet using  heavy Irwell stick  ( 4BB approximately) Below my first grayling from the Don on the same float. 😁  Until the next time. . . . .
