Grayling Bobbers

Image
I was asked to make some  grayling bobbers  for a friend.  I have to be honest and say there is not much difference between these and my standard  perch bobbers accept that the stems are weighted to help with casting and to present the bait properly in running water. These are finished in fluorescent red / pink and orange with black, gold and purple thread plus a jay feather for decoration. I hope you like them. 😁 The smaller bobbers take around 3 AAA. The larger, orange grayling bobber takes around 6AAA TTFN   Peanut.      If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1        Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!    http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/

New Stick Floats - A Short Testing Session

Image
After two of my mates cried off this weekend ( Shame on you.....lol )  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I didn't have a plan of where to go !!!!! I have been struggling to get motivated to fish for quite some time now but I had to go and test out my new stick float so I chose to go local hope for the chub or the newly stocked silvers to show. The wind was up but I chose to use my Trudex pin coupled with an Acolyte Plus. I fancied fishing over depth slowing the bait right down using a large domed stick and the pin is great for this method. The first choice of swim I chose was a bad one. The swim had changed quite a lot since the last time I fished it. It had a lot of depth but with changing currents steams and an eddy on the far side.....very difficult to get in a rhythm and keep your bait in one run. I did manage one trout........but this was the only bite I had in 45 minutes so I packed up and off to the next peg. This run was also very slow...... two bites..... two trout

A Prial Of Inserted Sarkanda Wagglers

I have had another crack at this pattern using a few different threads. Black ,gold, violet and a new addition to my thread box. . . . . " Metallic grey " 😁 I have another half a dozen of these on the go with slightly different thread colours which should be ready at the beginning if the new year. I was not to sure how the metallic grey thread would work out but it looks good to me.... What do you think ? Ivory Avons.

A prial of 5 BB " Ivory Avons " Sporting balsa bodies plus cane tips & stems. The tips are all fluorescent day glow orange and the threads used were black violet and gold. I quiet like the look of these and will be making a few more in various colours in the near future both with cane and alloy stems. One is for  " The Casterman " Lets hope he can get me some fish and float pictures. 😁 TTFN Peanut. A New Balsa Stick Float

Image
I have just completed a new  " Balsa, Domed Stick Float With An Alloy Stem " I have given this particular float a day glow red/ pink tip and a white contrast band plus black, scarlet and violet whippings. The dome is twice the width of a standard  " Retro Stick Float "  to enable use with bigger baits or for trotting at distance. Great if your eyes are not the best . . . . . . . .   like mine !!!!!!! This is a prototype and takes 7 no 4s to cock it. I am very happy with the way it looks so I have left the float featherless for a change as I feel it would detract, not enhance the floats appeal. I am sure Andrew will let me know how it performs. In the meantime I think I will make a few more of these for when we hit the  River Ribble  on opening day of the season if all goes to plan. . . . . Lol I have also personalised the float with the nick name of his new born daughter. Until the next time. . . . . TTFN Peanu

Fluorescent Red Mini - Porcupine Quill Bobber .

Image
I love the look of these porcupine stemmed bobbers.  This is the second one I have made now and have really enjoyed making it. I can imagine my grandad using one of these on the River Eden bait fishing for trout where allowed. This traditional style bobber has a balsa body, a porcupine quill stem and a brass eye. The threads are black and violet and the paints are plain white and fluorescent pink / red. At home on the river trotting for grayling or in a lake for perch.  These floats are quite versatile and can be used to fish for a number of species. Margin fishing for carp is another popular use. I have a trip soon on which I am targeting grayling, a fish that has eluded me all these years.  Hopefully this float will be fully dry so I can get a traditional fish and float picture. If not.......... I have my childhood bobber on stand by.  😊 Lets hope the weather holds out Jordan. Until the next time. . . . .  TTFN Peanut. If

Ivory Baby Bobbers

Image
With my latest quartet of  " Baby Bobbers " I have tried to tone these down a little and make them a little more traditional.  I started well keeping to my ivory colour combination but fell down at the base stem whipping stage and just had to add a little bling . . . . . Lol. The silver metallic thread is slightly more subtle than my standard gold thread and really goes with this set.  Finished in ivory, black, silver, violet and various fluorescent clour tips.😁 The bobbers take approximately 3AAA and can be used for perch, grayling and jack pike using maggots, casters, small worms and live fry etc. I am very happy with the way these have turned out even if I went off plan slightly . Lol. 🤣 Until the next time. TTFN Peanut.
