"Casterman" and "The Peanut" - The Bromance Continues 🤣

Image
A long overdue social session had been orgsnised by " The Casterman " on the Irwell. . . . . Unfotunately "Bald Eagle" was working and "Salfold Pete"  was on taxie duties to the hospital all day  so it was just myself and Derek Kenyon for this session. We arrived around tea time and settled down fishing next to each other for the first forty minutes. Fist things first. I present Casterman with the but section of his Tricast XRS float rod. I had replaced the butt eye for him and he seemed impressed with my efforts. I am no Andrew Boyne but it seemed pretty good to me.  I had the better peg of the two but the session did not start off to well for either of us with a bumped fish, then I lost another. I was glad the Casterman was out of site, hidden behind an overhanging beech tree. He would have chastised me relentlessly if he would have seen me lose two fish !!!!!!!!! At the thrid bite of the cherry I got a hook up.

Chubbing - A Stolen Few Hours In The Sunshine

Image
After waiting in all day for various tradesmen to turn up I finally got a little free time to go fishing.  I had planed to try the River Mersey if the tradesmen were finished by 1.30 pm but it was not to be and decide on an Irwell session. I pulled up near the Irwell stretch around 4.15 pm trying for the illusive River Irwell Chub. I have had a small amount is success on the Irwell lately. So, with a little more enthusiasm than was usual I made my way to the same run I fished a few days ago to pass some time in the sunshine. http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/08/chubbing-on-irwell-irwell-stick-strikes.html?m=1 I was hopefully of adding another chub to my list of captures........ (Always dangerous being hopefully when fishing the Irwell.....lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣) As I approached the run I had a closer inspection of the river, my high hopes took a dent right from the off !!!!!!!! The river was dropping but still about a foot above normal levels which is not too b

Chubbing On The Irwell - Irwell Stick Strikes Again.

Image
With a LOT of encouragement from Casterman aka Derek Kenyon I sorted out my kit for a chubbing session on the Irwell. I have lost my mojo a bit lately what with losing My Acolyte...........then having it returned by Andy Hart.....  ( Incredible I know ) eventually sorting out a session on the Ribble with Andrew Boyne, watching him pull out a double figure barbel while I toiled for four hours on the stick for one  dace !!!!!!! I had a slightly different Irwell stick to try out. It is wider, therefore, more visible than the previous ones and taking little more shot. ( 12 no 4's) I spent a fruitless two hours on a couple of secret runs Casterman always does very well on. I nearly went home there and then as I wasn't feeling it today and was just going through the motions really. " Come on Cootesie, make an effort " I mumbled to myself. I still had a few hours left so I swiftly..... BUT CAREFULLY packed my kit away..... ALL OFF IT .....before

Small Multi - Coloured Sight Bob Wagglers.

Image
Here is a twist on my . . . . Sight Bob Wagglers. I have made these in five different colours. . . . From left to right . . . Metallic Pearlescent Green Metallic Pearlescent Egg Shell Blue Metallic Pearlescent Blue Metallic Pearlescent Royal Red and Classic Peanut Purple. 😉 Although designed with tench and bream in mind and taking approximately 4AAA plus these floats will work well for most species of still water fish. What do you think about the colours ??? I have a few more to add yet. . . . Stay tuned. 😁 Until the next time.  😊 TTFN Peanut If you would like to look at my handcrafted floats just hit the link. http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-2017.html?m=1 Join our club Its free !!!!!! http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/

Drennan Acolyte.....The Reunion !!!!!!!!!

Image
Some of you may know that I recently lost my Drennan 14 foot Acolyte Plus float rod, unbelievable I know . . . . . . . .  in fact, I lost it three weeks ago but only realised last week as I was preparing for another trip. I didn't realise I had lost it because I hadn't used it on that last session so I thought it was safely nestled in it's tube in my holdall. Imagine my horror when I looked in my bag and it wasn't there !!!!! I turned the house upside down looking for it.........no joy. 😔 The last throw of the dice would be to put a post on the forums and face book to see if anyone had found it..... Bloody long shot I thought !!!!!!!!!! One the forums was the Wigan Anglers forum, a club I have recently joined. Imagine how I felt when the club secretary contacted my and told me that someone had found an Acolyte on one of the club stretches of the Ribble and that the finder would contact me asap. The chap who found it is called Andy Hart from Chorley a tru
