Segmented Glow In The Dark Porcupine Quills

Image
Its the first time I have made Segmented Glow In The Dark Porcupine Quills. These three will be spending there life in Sweden chasing big crucians and tench. These are small floats taking approximately 3BB, are ideal for fishing the lift method at close quarters and great for fishing in low light or zero light conditions, a real bonus when fish are feeding into the darkness. A phosphorescent pigment was used to give the glow in the dark effect.     Basically, the phosphorescent pigment works by trapping the suns energy in crystals. Once the crystals are charged by sunlight the energy is then released as a glow of light giving you the glow in the dark affect. Lets hope they bag a few beauties TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1        Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!  http://salfordfrie

Straight Still Water Wagglers

Image
While I have been off work I have managed to finish a few on going projects. Here is the latest, Straight Still Water Wagglers. Two red/ pink and one orange. Once more made from reed and finished in pearlescent, metallic purple with black, gold and crimson threads, these will be at home on  natural or commercial still waters suspending larger baits like pellet, corn or bread etc I have included, in the pictures below, an olive green river waggler.  The basic difference between the still water floats and the river floats is the tip length. River floats have longer tip colours for dragging baits on the deck for when a really slow trot is require. River waggler. I need to get some fishing with one of these so I can get a few nice pictures for the blog. Roach & Dace. A Red Letter Day On The River Irwell

Image
Today I had another session on the Littleton Road section of the River Irwell In Salford. The sun was bright and baring down on me so I wasn't too hopeful of a good catch but as Mike Duddy says " You have got to be in it to win it " !!!!!!!!!! Rod and reel for the session was a 14 foot Acolyte and an Okuma Centerpin My end tackle was a hand made 10 No6 stick float, 16s hook and 4 lb main line. I was feeding straight from the moment I arrived and on my first trot down hooked into a nice dace of around 3 ounces. I had nothing then for around 10 minutes so used the time to alter my shot pattern and depth, fine tuning my set up for when they arrived. ( Here's hoping ) The continuous feeding of maggot and hemp was slowly starting to work and bites started to materialise. 😁 Small, sharp bobs at first but as I increased the feed more positive bites started to show, then a fish. A nicely conditioned roach.  😁 I was getting into my rhythm

Lower Irwell Silvers & A Lump !!!! Stick Float Fishing

Image
A long over due trip on the  Lower River Irwell  to test out my new stepped stick floats was tonight's mission. Many in our club would like to know where all the silvers and small barbel have gone ? So tonight was a scouting session to try and find them !!!!!!!!!! I opted for my Abu 704 closed faced reel tonight as the wind was a little gusty coupled with my 14 foot Acolyte Plus. Bait was two pints of white maggots, a pint of hemp. Two stepped stick float rigs were knocked up at home and stored on line winders. All was ready for my little experimental session. 😁 It took around 30 minutes or my first bite and fish, a lovely chunky dace of around 5 ounces.  I shallowed my rig a little and placed a No 4s back shot on about 15 centimetres from the float to aid my presentation and got and instant response, small but very welcome. 😁 Felling a little more confident I steadily upped my feed of hemp and maggots hoping to attracted the larger fish.  Incr

New 7 Inch Two-Tone Inserted Wagglers.

Image
I have made this set of five  7 Inch Two-Tone Inserted Wagglers for fishing close for general fishing on small baits. As the others these are made of reed and cane, metallic pearlescent paint with black, gold & red whippings. This set takes approximately 4 BB and also has black tips for awkward light conditions. A good general float which will always have a place in my float tube. 😁 TTFN   Peanut.   If you would like to look at my handcrafted  click on the link below.      https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1        Join our club......Its FREE  !!!!!!!  http://salfordfriendlyanglers.co.uk/join/
