A New River With New Irwell Sticks & The Ginger Assassin

Image
John Derbyshire has been inviting me to go grayling fishing with him for months. I had not taken him up on his offer for a number of reasons, work, family, weather etc You all know the score !!!!!! Yesterday I finally got organised and went with him to a new ( for me ) north west river. The good thing about having fishing mates is when you have not seen for a while you both have stacks of things to talk about. We never stopped talking and laughing all the way to the venue. When we arrived we set up at the car, donned our waders and walked across the field to the river. As we approached the river John pointed out a foxes den, ( I am always interested in learning about nature on our rivers ) and  thought he could smell the foxes musk or scat or something or other !!!!!!!! Taking the mickie I replied... " Jeeeeesus Christ !!!!!!!! I'm fishing with  A Ginger Crocodile Dundee" Hahahahahahhah !!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 We both rolle

Here is a new page for you all to look at for 2019. 😁 Previous Float Page Links. 2017 - 2018 https://purplepeanut007.blogspot.com/2017/01/handcrafted-floats-and-fishing.html?m=1 2014 - 2016 http://purplepeanut007.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/hand-crafted-floats-float-making-by.html?m=1 These seem very popular with my friends at the moment. 😁 Straight, Inserted Sarkanda Wagglers. Below are my first floats of 2019. I started these over the Christmas period in between projects. Not a matching set but all good to go. Three glow in the dark yellow perch bobbers plus a day glow orange one. All with feather inlays.  All take 3AAA apart from the large one which is 6 AAA.

New Stick Floats - A Short Testing Session

Image
After two of my mates cried off this weekend ( Shame on you.....lol )  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I didn't have a plan of where to go !!!!! I have been struggling to get motivated to fish for quite some time now but I had to go and test out my new stick float so I chose to go local hope for the chub or the newly stocked silvers to show. The wind was up but I chose to use my Trudex pin coupled with an Acolyte Plus. I fancied fishing over depth slowing the bait right down using a large domed stick and the pin is great for this method. The first choice of swim I chose was a bad one. The swim had changed quite a lot since the last time I fished it. It had a lot of depth but with changing currents steams and an eddy on the far side.....very difficult to get in a rhythm and keep your bait in one run. I did manage one trout........but this was the only bite I had in 45 minutes so I packed up and off to the next peg. This run was also very slow...... two bites..... two trout

Tench Float - Lollipop Lifter

Image
I found myself staring at a slimline bodied waggler blank I had made over the Christmas period. My memory cast back to when myself and John Derbyshire fished a quiet northern tench lake a few years ago. We used tinca sticks on that occasion but I thought, as the lake was a rather deep one, a bodied waggler would be a nice tool to use next season if we visit. It is quite close quarters fishing on the lake so a sightbob waggler was a little overkill in my opinion so I chose to make something a little different. I have christened it a  " Lollipop  Lifter " as  " Salford Pete said it looked a bit like an ice lolly.....LOL 🤣 Finished with burgundy paint and multiple fluorescent colours, plus gold, black and purple threads. It takes approximately 6 AAA so the bait can get through the greedy perch shoals in the lake...... Anyway....here it its " The Lollipop Lifter " The last float of 2018. 😁 I think I will fish this as a s

SFA Float Auction . Meeting The Winner

Image
As you know I offered up a couple of floats to the SFA for an auction prize. " Stuart Vachre " Won the auction kindly offering £30.00 for a pair of my inserted wagglers. I contacted Stuart after the auction to sort out delivery. During the conversation we found out that Stuarts sister went to school with my partner, were friends and had recently meet up at a reunion so instead of posting the floats we decided to meet at my local pub for a good chinwag Stuart has never really been river fishing so I am going to organise a little tutorial for him on the Irwell. Mainly stick float fishing but..... I may show him my waggler if he's lucky. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣   I must thank Stuart for his generous bid of £30.00 for the pair of inserted wagglers above. All monies were payed directly to the SFA's fish stocking fund. Well done Stuart. We shall wet a line together soon m8. A Prial Of Inserted Sarkanda Wagglers

I have had another crack at this pattern using a few different threads. Black ,gold, violet and a new addition to my thread box. . . . . " Metallic grey " 😁 I have another half a dozen of these on the go with slightly different thread colours which should be ready at the beginning if the new year. I was not to sure how the metallic grey thread would work out but it looks good to me.... What do you think ?
